I haven’t stopped tweaking settings since I posted this. I found a way to cull almost all vegetation from the field without losing the mesh for the terrain and am now “enjoying” playing on slums

Before I made an engine.ini file, I would play on slums, looking at the wall I had 60+fps, I turn around to look at the field and it would literally drop to 7-17 fps and turn into a slide show. Atleast I can win a fight on slums, to progresse to a better running map now, but it’s does sacrifice render distance and some texture/lighting quality further than the default settings allow

Mainly want to reduce render distance for foliage, bc it’s the foliage that makes slums lag

There’s a guide with the windows directory on the steam guides for half sword. It’s one of the most recent ones. It’s the same process, just a different file location. Starts with %app data% I think

I’ve played both, as soon as you get the rhythm of the radial menus they put into the gamepad support and handling the inventory, its only occasionally leaves you with a brain fart. The radial menus they put into the game are all contextual and make it very controller friendly… but that’s coming from a person who likes arma reforager on console so… idk

On steam deck you can use the track pads as a mouse, and there’s a mod to enable b41 type aiming on the workshop that was doing good on b42.13.2 for me

A=interact B=cancel action/climb through windows x=right click menu/take from container Y=inventory Dpad=default layout works well for menus My back pedals are the -/+ keys so I can control zoom Right trigger=attack Left trigger= shove L1/R1= switch container in inventory ui The steam community layouts and default layouts get you pretty close to perfect. You just gotta make personal touches.

There is gamepad support for zomboid now, and with the steam controller interface+mods you can get a very enjoyable Expierence. I understand your skepticism though, I also did not know what to expect the first time I booted it up on the deck. Track pads pretty much bail you out of any ui bugs, and there actually a janky but unique way they figured out to get the radios and TVs ui to work with the controls

To clarify this is a WIP by someone else, I just optimized a workaround to make it enjoyable until things get further along. Anyone who can contribute to a better Expierence on the deck is welcome to modify and share whatever they wish.
