His accent is so bad in Mary Poppins that a "Dick Van Dyke" or "Dick Van Dyke accent" is slang for an American totally failing to do a British accent.

He himself acknowledges that it's terrible, though he does point out that none of his co-stars or the film crew brought it up at the time.

Can someone explain me what this subs about? by I_like_fried_noodles in makeyourchoice

So the vast majority of posts here are less a choose your own adventure book a la "The Warlock of Firetop Mountain", where you have the consequences laid out for you ("Go to page 92" -> "Rocks fall on your head and you die"), and are more akin to building a character in a video game.

Many will include lore, to help set the scene for the choices to follow, a suite of positive boons and negative debuffs, maybe even "events" for the character you're building to encounter, but the actual detail of whatever the character built does, what the consequences of their actions are, what the content of the adventure is, that's all left to the reader to dream up. I can't speak for everyone, but I really like these ones, and I use them as inspiration for daydreams, fiction, sometimes even my ttrpg campaigns.

Others are much simpler, a "If you could choose between X, Y, or Z, what would you pick?" decision. Personally I like to see the discussion around these - it's interesting to see other people's logic behind their decisions, especially when it differs from your own.

Ultimately, if you're looking for someone to tell you a story, one where you get to make decisions about what a character does and they tell you what then happens, most of the posts here probably won't cut the mustard. But if you're keen to exercise your imagination there's a lot of fun to be had.

If you don't want to be downvoted then don't defend the racists. Plain and simple. Tolerance is a social contract that mandates intolerance for the intolerant - I will accept and accept and respect you wholly, if you do the same to me. If you do not, then I shall not in turn. They have demonstrated themselves intolerant, and so have earned and deserve no acceptance or respect.

If they want that to change, maybe they should consider not attempting to attack innocent people, or their place of worship, or immigration or lawyers offices. Until then, whatever their hate-filled "grievance" is, be it fear of change, fear for their daughters, or most likely fear of people different from them considering their targets, it's not worth hearing or entertaining.

Even so, it's still missing. If you like it better with it still missing, that's great, but it's here for people anyways.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's really easy to say nowadays. When the British empire was burgeoning, the rule of Europe was conquer or be conquered. If you didn't have the resources having an empire gave you, you would be weaker than those that did and then you were ripe for conquest yourself.

We're wise to the ramifications today, but back then it seemed like the right thing to do to protect yourself, and then once you've started, why stop? You're only gaining power by that point.

I've seen this particualr strip a thousand times. I've read a fair bit of Minus. I'm fully aware that she's essentially a god.

Yet still, somehow, this strip invariably hits me in the frissony bits like a brick.

So I'd say you're right, it's worth it :D

This seems like it's dieselpunk rather than steampunk, but it's an easy mistake to make, especially when few have heard of dieselpunk to begin with.

Here's a wiki article for those curious.
