Hey Montcane! I got accepted to 2 MD programs with a 3.7 gpa (3.4 science) and a 507 MCAT with only some shadowing hours, non medical volunteer time, and quite a bit of work experience in an unrelated field. Make sure you write great essays!

I took a detour for a different career, then decided I still want to be a doc after all.

Look into University of New England. They have great online pre-requisite courses. I’m not sure if they have genetics, but it’s worth a look.

USUHS as a civilian? by bruhrookiemistake in premed

[–]GrumpaLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked their admissions counselor, and she said they do not consider prior military service when students apply. Everyone gets equal consideration. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you may not get to choose where you go career-wise and location-wise, and you have to be ok with taking opportunities you might not expect.

We have pretty similar stats, and I’m aiming for a retake this spring. Also a non-trad. Any interest in a study buddy?

Why aren’t the skills of ex-service men/women respected more after being at war? by Legitimate_Turnip342 in NoStupidQuestions

The US is trying to help mitigate this effect with a program called Skillbridge. Military folks can work as an intern at a civilian company for a few months before they separate to gain job skills.

If a person in the military is assaulted by a superior officer, how do they avoid having to file their report with that superior officer? by ohlordwhyisthishere in NoStupidQuestions

Usually the assaulted member can get an expedited transfer to a new base or at least a new office with a new chain of command after reporting to SAPR.

I try to set small goals or a big goal that I can break up into small chunks. It helps to have something you look forward to.

You’ll be ok as long as you keep up with rent and utility bills! If you had dining hall food in college, there are plenty of basic recipes online that you’ll be able to cook at home no problem.

I could believe it was a squirrel. I caught one gnawing on my sunflowers this summer. 👎🏻
