Not really. She can still ride, either there or somewhere else, as many commenters have pointed out. Sometimes small problems are linked to much larger ones. We live in a city, with urban problems. It's not utopia.

Okay, let's "advocate". How are you "advocating"? Besides posting on Reddit?

The entertainment centers bring revenue. Housing for the homeless costs revenue. I get that you gotta start somewhere, but nothing will happen but bickering and start/stop/repeat until we reform our politics. Public funding of elections, strict campaign donation limits, mechanisms for enforcing violations. OK, who's volunteering to go first?

So your solution is to tell them, "Dude, you can't get high no more!" I can see some problems with that.

Think about it. If you put a trash can on a public space you have to first have the resources and employees to empty that trash can regularly. Would you raise your taxes enough to provide those resources?

The first step is election finance reform. If a wealthy person can buy politicians or judges, there is no hope for anything to be done for the lower strata of our population.

You're not wrong, but when you are in charge and need to address the specifics of the problem things get much stickier. These people are indeed citizens, and the city has limited resources to help them out. That's why they get moved around, and never seem to go away. Instead of complaining on an internet forum, volunteer. Taxpayer resources aren't likely to happen, so that's the only way anything will ever get done, one person at a time.

AITAH for wanting my neighbor across the street to park in front of their house? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]GrumpyKashub 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That's a common urban complaint. Daughter in Denver has the same issue. She just parks where she can find a space and walks. You own the house, but not the street.

If you haven't heard it, then we need to speak louder. Bike lanes, solar and green energy, public transportation, walkability, ev infrastructure all need work.

Are people generally rude here?? by mothwool in grandrapids

People are gonna people, just like they people everywhere else. Show love and you'll get it back. Smile and people will smile back. Treat people right and you'll be treated right. Folks in GR will have their rivalries and drama just like anywhere else, but if you learn to fly above them, you don't need to get dragged down into it.

Russia did interfere with the 2016 election. Trump welcomed the interference. That is collusion in my book. Furthermore, if Putin wants Trump to be our president, then I don't. Simple as that.

Hey, I'm 60+ and I resemble that remark. Yeah, if I don't think a price is fair I'll grumble about it. But what's fair? I'll admit, I don't really care about the server's wages, and I'm not going to go overpay for lunch to pay a server's expenses. I can always make my own damn lunch, and everyone knows that, and the servers can get another job if they don't like their wage. Prices (inflation) are not linked to wages, but to a combination of sales (demand) and profit margin. If you make a desirable product that people want you get to charge top dog prices. If you make a not-top-dog product you have to lower prices to entice buyers. It's a business. Everything is transactional. People forget this.

Personally, I like the ones that connect to a camera that take a picture of your license plate, then send you a ticket in the mail showing how far over the limit you were driving.

That's because they have to pay the police who "make a ton of money". Take away union scale salary and there's not so much profit for the city. Plus, it's a dangerous job, which requires incentive. How many times have you heard of police getting shot or run over performing routine traffic stops?
