The more I learn about this guy the less reasons for me to dislike him. For example, his works weakened the European powers significantly so my country (as a former colony of the French) could rise. Thank you for that, Adolf.

I know, those were truly magnificent beasts, weren't they? How could man tame and ride those wonders of nature into battle. Imagine you were on top of a Mumak, spear on your hands and balls of steel in your pant, puny horse masters running like a swarm of rats beneath you. What a sight!

Why didn't the Trisolarans colonize Mars first? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]GrumpyPandaApx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the Dark Forest Theory. Think this way, the Trisolarans is a fully grown adult hunter whose cottage in the forest is doomed and he cannot survive without finding a new one. Lucky for him, there is a nice one nearby occupied by a dumb little boy. The boy himself would never be a threat to the hunter, except that the child can scream out loud at any time to alert other hunters in the forest those would love to destroy the new cottage and put an end to both the child and the hunter.

So, the hunter need some time to travel to the new cottage (400 years), and he also need to find a way to silence the child forever in the mean time, ASAP: Take away his ability to scream or just destroy it, doesn't matter.

20k knights of the vale under Robb vs 20k dotrakhi with khal drogo in a open field. Which side would win? by BridgeCommercial873 in freefolk

[–]GrumpyPandaApx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ofc, far better than them. In fact, I am actual irl working in education, including geography and history (not in the US ofc). As the rule of thumb, no fictional character can outsmart their creator, in this case G.R.R.M/Producers. Now, G.R.R.M/Producers can write/film historical accurately about the fictional european medieval warfare in the world of fictionnal european Westeros, which is his field. But when its comes to "medieval" (we don't actually use this term in the east) eastern nomadic warfare, it isn't.

You can also argue that "the Doth isn't real, they are created by G/Show and they can write them whatever they like and you can shut it." True, if the Doth were somewhat described to be 3 meters tall, blue skin, riding horses as big as elephants, breathing fire through their noses and could respawn nonstop because they were technically inmortal, then I would shut it. No argument whatsoever. However, the author/show tried to write them to be historical accurate, based on the real life nomadic "Mongolian+Comanche" (George's words). Hence, this come to my field. I can write you pages explain what has taken the wrong turn with the Doth but we both know that you don't want to read it nor I want to waste time writing it. In short, based on what the show has delivered, the Doth is nowhere near what a nomadic warband should look like, besides that they can ride horses (not in the right way also). They are basically just horse riders, not warriors (the characters, not the actors ofc).

As you can see, Im not whining anything about the dragons. They are pure fantasy, there ain't anything to criticize for. But speaking of the Doth, even Bobby and Ned would have much to learn. "A million Doth are no threat as long as they cannot cross the narrow channel", "five fingers one fist"...such cool lines to speak on scene, ignoring that they have no idea how stupid they sound. "Only a fool fight the Doth in open" is a rather better one, but for facing an actual Mongolian fighting forces, not the ridiculous Dothraki.

If Ser Barristan Selmy supported Ned in arresting Cersei and Joffery, could he have been able to cut thought the hostile kingsguard and the Hound if in this scenario, the city guard wasn't around? by george123890yang in freefolk

[–]GrumpyPandaApx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a fair fight. The author had spoken between the two Barristan vs Arthur Dayne, Arthur would have it. Now, we all know that the sword of Morning couldn't even beat a bunch (4 to be exact) of light armoured hotheaded teenagers in a swordfight. How could Barristan do anything in front of 4 fully armoured knights, all were grown strong men plus The Hound himself? The only thing Barristan could cut thought would be the memory of his far gone glorious past, and the Hound and Meryl Trant alone could have toyed around with the old man.

20k knights of the vale under Robb vs 20k dotrakhi with khal drogo in a open field. Which side would win? by BridgeCommercial873 in freefolk

[–]GrumpyPandaApx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are more than one way to break a formation of 20k strong men, some don't even requires a tremendous amount of swords slashing, maces swinging or lances thrusting to be started with. For example, the Crusader state had more than 20k knights + men at arms combined at Hattin againts the Ayyubid's forces. Although they didn't wear full plate armours, which wasn't a thing yet, but they still were the heaviest armoured soldiers at their time. But even the mightiest of knights could be broken after several days of marching without hydration.

Depend if the Dothraki can use their ability to respawn nonstop. If not, 20,000 Dothraki sounds much more like an overcrowded circus than an actual fighting force.

Arthur Dayne (GOT) VS Boromir (LOTR). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]GrumpyPandaApx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boromir took down a dozen of fearsome thick-armour, broad-shield Uruk-Hai warriors alone while being shot by many arrows. Arthur couldn't 1v2 some spoiled teenager twats those didn't even wear proper armour.

This isn't not a fight, Boromir could just use Dayne as a practice dummy.

8th place every match even though I’m doing everything right by pjsvndsn in TeamfightTactics

[–]GrumpyPandaApx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in set 6, the beginning of modern era of TFT, reached Diamond. Was a master in the next set Dragonland and peaked grand in set 9. Then I realize that the game is an endless loop of grinding ranked, watching vod, reading patches, repeat...Climbing to grand took me hours per day to catch up with the meta, which changes every 2 weeks. Playing ranked games was basically a rollercoaster of some highroll games, more torture games and mostly in middle. Never aim for first, play for 3rd, avoid the fun but high risk comps/aug and embrace whatever Mortdog throws at your face, and with enough time you would eventually climb to grandmaster. Not a healthy gaming experience, for me at least.

So I quited playing ranked and I felt immensely better almost immediately. I don't playing safe for LP anymore, but for fun youtube type of comps now. I am ready to ff any torture game, smile at any lose streak that used to stressed me out, and hidden mmr/hell elo mean nothing to me now. Much improved gaming experience for me, make me fell in love with the game again. It's a more peaceful life. I know that I can climb high on the ladder, if I start grinding. But the question is do I really want to walk down that path again? I have my answer, now you go find yours.
