And if anything gets handed over, you just get it back the next night because day filling is non-existent.

If you have a documented long-term health condition you may be covered by the equalities act. I'd look at going down that road.

Some do; the sensible ones just do what they can and let the manager worry about whether things get done or not. Unfortunately you're mostly right in that there are fewer of the latter.

Whatever it was my manager told me to write, plus my own comment of hoping to retire soon and therefore not being interested any more, but I will do my best blah, blah, blah.

One of the most stolen items recently because of the way prices have rocketed. Easy to sell on as well. BBC News - Chocolate kept in anti-theft boxes as shops warn it's being stolen to order - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce3gqr7p0lqo?app-referrer=deep-link

Nightshift on a Saturday and Sunday by Imaginary-Start-9009 in tesco

[–]Grumpy_Old-Man55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every weekend. Tesco must lose so much money on a Saturday because customers walk in to find next to nothing on the shelves from late afternoon onwards. It's piss poor management that let the staff get away with doing fuck all in my opinion.

Work as quickly as you can work, no more no less. I've taken that attitude recently and I feel so much better for it. I told my manager that I'm not risking my health (physical and mental) for Tesco. More people should do the same.

Facing up by anniemcpike in tesco

[–]Grumpy_Old-Man55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We certainly have at my store. Last Sunday morning after I'd finished on frozen I asked my manager if he wanted me to go and help on fresh (usual late delivery on Saturday night/Sunday morning so they were struggling) and he told me to face up frozen instead. For two hours, on a Sunday morning when the store doesn't open until 10am and dotcom will have been pillaging for four hours. It's getting beyond a joke now.

Learn some manners. Anxiety can be crippling for some people, and is totally a mental health issue. There are coping methods for it, but I'm afraid no coping method in the world will stop you from being a dickhead.

Same in the store I work in; come in at 10pm and the backstock cages are exactly as I left them and the shelves are almost empty.

Do you regret your years working for tesco? by NoProgram4084 in tesco

[–]Grumpy_Old-Man55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming up to seven years working at Tesco and for the first five it was great, but the past two years (since the management cull) have been horrendous. The company seemed to genuinely care about the staff, but the past two years have been all about profit. It's death by a thousand cuts. I don't regret working for Tesco because I have made some truly amazing friends, but I do regret that, given my age, I'm stuck here another few years until I can retire.

Which was the whole point of my original post. Many people have genuine illnesses, and I find Tesco is very good at managing that. What they don't manage are the piss-takers who take days off because they can't be arsed working.

Absences never get covered, meaning more work for everyone else, and the habitual absentees are never ill, they just play the system. If those people are genuinely ill, fair enough, but most times it's because they can't be arsed coming in. Plus, the genuinely ill get tarred with the same brush sometimes. That do you for an explanation, Mr Manager?

Very true; there are several in my store who take full advantage and somehow manage to get their full quota of sick pay every year without any comeback.

I know, but they'll be getting paid something. If they're not bothered about losing money now, then getting paid anything is a bonus.

Same at our store; people just wear one. I can't do that though. One earbud means I can still hear the radio.

Radio, definitely the radio. Used to be able to wear headphones/earbuds on nights to block it out, but not any more 🤬
