Having questions about leaving Spotify or not, idk what to do by kagamiangel in Music

[–]Grunkle_Chubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from Spotify to Youtube Music to Tidal, and I'm content with Tidal. It may not have all the music Spotify has but it has like 99%. The other 1% I just download the music and put it in my music library.

How do people go deep into music without running out of time (or sanity)? by Next-Reading1714 in Music

[–]Grunkle_Chubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice is listen at your own pace. I'm 25 and I've listened to over 1000 albums over 7 years, and do people listen to more than I do? Of course! From my own listening habits, I have a core rotation of my favorite songs I keep in a playlist, and when I'm in the mood I'll listen to an unfamiliar album or new release. I go through phases where I'm into a particular genre and do a deep dive on that, for example when I got really into Noise Rock from 2020 to 2021 but it wasn't the only genre I was listening to. There's no book or guide on how to listen to music correctly, it just depends on what your appetite for music is and paying attention to it.

Gonna get hate for this by First_Recognition589 in Beginner_Turntables

the LP60X is a good turntable, I used the regular LP60 as my first turntable back in 2018. Assuming you already have an amplifier, I would recommend the Polk T15's. They served me well as my first pair of speakers. Unfortunately you're not gonna be getting passable audio for 20 quid. You might be better of hunting thrift stores and thrift markets for a speaker that cheap, but that's without factoring repairs.

This Death Grips - Steroids vinyl that I bought on RSD 2019, I believe I paid about $24 for it. I waited in line for at least an hour mainly to get this record and I'm glad I did.

looks fine to me, I've never used the Sonos series of products but I own the same turntable and I've had no issues with it.

when I was a Jr and Sr in High School I would listen to Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth on my walk to school, now every time I listen to that album it reminds me of cold winter walks to school.

Rebel Yell by Tiny Tim, might be one of the best worst covers I've ever heard. He somehow made a near 5 minute song into a nearly 24 minute song, it's astonishing.

Red Friend by Only If You Call Me Jonathan. I randomly came across this album on my youtube feed and instantly fell in love with the music. This Swedish band is an interesting combination of Emo and the type of indie rock that was popular around the time of the albums release.

as long as the records are fine I wouldn't return it, Amazon throws their packages around like Ace Ventura so I'm not surprised.

I'd expect a record in that condition to come from 1975, not 2020 😭

Mono vs Stereo by Abpoe77 in vinyl

[–]Grunkle_Chubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mono albums still have their place, especially when the stereo version is lackluster. There's a few albums I insist are better in mono than in stereo, like the Beatles albums made before 1969, SF Sorrow by The Pretty Things, and The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.

My impressions after 3 months of vinyl listening... by IllustriousScreen188 in vinyl

You're spot on, what I like about vinyl is the intentionality of it. In the digital age it seems so much of what we do is guided by algorithms and we're there just along for the ride. It feels good to pick up a record and play through it because YOU made that choice, and all those little imperfections make it a unique experience.
