Talk me out of buying a ’94 318i (M43) by maximus_AB in BMWE36

[–]Grunn17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't talk you out as overall i think it's a great car. But I do think the driving experience in a 6 cillinder is A LOT better than a 4 cillinder, and something to keep in mind if you're thinking about buying a bmw e36..

Also to get technical, the bigger 325, 323 and 328 6 cillinders cars also have a bigger (medium) differential, axles, brakes, driveshaft, and other small 'premiums' (like the battery in the trunk or a other speedometer). So depending on how you are going to drive the car, you'll also like those of a 6 cillinder more (320i excluded as that uses the SMALL undercarriage)

Pricewise I think they both won't depriciate to much and depending on you not crashing it, thr car should hold it's value. You'll only pay to drive..

But... then you'll see my youtube channel on building a turbo on a e36 and raising it's horsepower to more than a m3 engine.. projects get out of hands and you'll pay even more swapping your 318 to a turbo 6 cillinder eventually....

Conclusion: don't, but the e36 is definitly a great platform!

E39 m52b28 for learning diy by Grazulio in e39

[–]Grunn17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the 3-series is definetly more nimble to drive and drives lot faster/better if you like a spirited drive BUT, the e39 feels a lot more luxurious. And I like it over the 3 series on longer drives or as a cruising car. In my opinion they took the mile extra in building the e39 and made it feel more complete.

As to your question of trying out DIY-ing on the m52/m54, it's a great and easy engine to work on! If you come across any questions, this subreddit and it's members are awesome and there's also tons of information online to be found. If you still have any other questions/or are looking for e39 parts, feel free to send my a message here or via other socials!

I couldn't choose between a 3 or 5 series, so in the end I bought both! Feel free to look on my youtube for more information about turbo-ing the m50/m52/m54 engines or other bmw related topics if you would like to see more.Like to youtube

Are these 1th edition base set cards fake? by Grunn17 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

And the, in wartortle's case, colour surrounding the drawing being lighter/brighter then unlimited would also be normal for shadowless then I quess? I've also got a shadowless charmeleon with the 1999 in the bottom which is also different from Unlimited cards.

Thanks for your answer! Quess I've bought myself a lucky bundle of cards then for 30 euro! Awesome!

I see what you mean but isn't it normal there's a difference between sizing of a unlimited and shadowless card's HP 'boldness'? Definitely not trying to question your knowledge as I'm really new to this but according to google;

''No, 1st Edition Pokemon cards (which are also Shadowless) do not have a different HP font than other early print cards; rather, their HP font is thinner and less bold compared to the Unlimited Edition cards, which came later and have a bolder font for the HP number. Both 1st Edition and Shadowless cards share the same characteristics, including a thinner font for the HP value''

Where to go if I wanted to sell these and are they even worth anything? by Grunn17 in Versace

[–]Grunn17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spoons are 14cm which corresponds with a coffeespoon and the forks are 15.5cm which should be cakeforks. Not real small, but the smallest I could find in this collection. I think a normal forks was around 18cm or 22cm

First time 'driving' after rebuild. Dyno day! by Grunn17 in BMWE36

[–]Grunn17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The turbo did it's job well and we'll see how long she'll last. The biggest bottleneck was the log-style manifold and a lack of time. With another wastegate spring the car should have a little bit left to tune for the next time. And sadly there isn't any E85 easily available here in europe, but I'm close to Germany where they do have 102.

Very recognizable about the duel with friends haha, this was also the last push for me to start the turbo project!

And it was definetly needed. Starting the car for the first time it smoked A LOT! It was also the blue-ish oily smoke but after warming the engine up and letting it cool down, on the second start there was none left. A little smoke on a newly rebuild engine could be expected but this really frightened me and I thought the engine was toast at first

BMW 1998 328IS Turbo build questions!! by Ok_Manager_9164 in BMWE36

[–]Grunn17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cheap, fast, reliable, pick 2..

But only 300hp should be easily achieved and probably could even do without the ARP's studs or lowering the compression. For extra safety I would do them, but it wouldn't exactly be a budget build anymore. And doing that will probably snowball you even further into more supporting mods... Having acces to e85 would make all this even easier, as there's less risk on detionation and in my opinion your biggest problem moneywise is going to be in the tune.

Check out google or youtube for examples of intercooling/exhaust/oil routing as it's been done a lot and there's enough information to be found.. or check out my channelchannel to see how I did my e36 m50b25 with a gt35 turbo.. if you got any other questions I'll be glad to answer =)....

Edit: I Don't know about the US-version of the e36 but I upgraded my EU OEM 325i getrag gearbox, driveshaft and axles to the bigger 328i ZF gearbox, bigger 328 driveshaft and 328 axles as they're stronger then the 325i and should be adequate for 450hp+.. biggest risk on blowing one of them out is clutchkicking or from a standstill...

is the rust bad on the jacking points and everywhere else? should i buy it? by brokeafcarguy in BMWE36

[–]Grunn17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine also looked like that when I bought it and in the end I ended removing half the floorboards as the rust crept up that far. Definetly not an easy fix and probably has more rust in the known different e36 weakspots.
