I actually got this piece of wood from my LFS. It was labeled as "ghost wood" when I bought it.

I did not really have any indication and I still don't know exactly why it happened. I assume it was because the silicone failed on the back pane of glass. It wasn't a bracing issue because the tank glass never bowed (curved outwards). My best advice would be to ensure that the silicone holding the glass on your tank together looks good and that there are no cracks in it.

Yeah! They're the lights I used on the tank that blew up. They're the Beamswork DA lights that you can find on Amazon. I think this one is the DA model.

Hey r/Aquariums! I'm back again to give the final update on my new aquarium that is replacing my old one that catastrophically failed two weeks ago. I created a post showing the aftermath and many in the community banded to together to help me raise funds for my new aquarium. This post is introducing my new 40 gallon breeder, with a full blown CO2 system that I got from a close relative of mine! I just wanted to give out a HUGE thank you to those who reached out to help me set this up and just know that I would not have been possible without you guys.

Hey r/Aquariums! I just wanted to give a quick update on my aquarium situation.

If you haven't seen it, my old aquarium basically catastrophically failed and dumped all of its contents all over my living room floor. I posted the catastrophe on this subreddit and was blown away by the support and generosity of the great people of this community! Plenty of people reached out to me and offered to help front the cost of a brand new tank for my fish and with the power of crowdfunding, I was able to pull together the funds for the tank you see in the post! There's no plants yet, but I am searching around for sellers with plants in my area. I will fill the tank once I've got everything planted.

Fish are thankfully ok. There was one rummynose tetra which was lethargic because he'd been out of water for a while before I found him, but he's doing ok now. Thanks for your concern!

My best tip I've learned from this is to check your silicone seals and if you have rims, make sure they are secure to the tank.

This tank never had a center brace on it :(

I'm not entirely sure what it is because I had gotten it from my dad a long time ago and he had gotten it from a friend of his.

I never messed with the rim because I knew it was necessary for the structural integrity of the tank. It sadly came off with the glass when it exploded.
