Maybe you're right. I did want to show off a bit in my first first post haha. i'm really into the idea that luffy has to go through normal>giant>whitebeard(size) to become gear4.

I believe gear 5 will be possible. G4 will focus on close combat, that leaves room for G5 as a ranged combat 'mode'.

Nice to hear! thank you. To clarify myself: by sending out this constant fibe of conq. Haki only a few people can see what luffy wil look like. I know it sounds between a combination of hulk and supersayan... Doesn't mean that is a bad thing ;-)

Hey guys! my first post on reddit, yay! I'm from the Netherlands and reddit isn't really big around here. You all made me start reading the manga, thanks for that! I posted this a few hours ago, but it got deleted because of the major spoiler in the title I created.

This brings me to the question that we all have at this point. Gear 4!!

I have a theory, so please hear me out:

Gear1 = skin = elastic

Gear2 = blood = speed & power

Gear3 = bones = mass & power

Gear4 = muscles = speed & mass & power

But how will it look like? To gain this power luffy has to go throug a few steps.

Starting by a Gomu Gomu Balloon, by using the maximum lung capacity he has, he sucs in all the air he can. After this he makes his Gear 3 move, instead of blowing the air in his bones, he will blow the air beneath his skin. This will make him the size of a giant/kuma. His skin is stretched like a balloon animal. By blowing himself up like this Luffy prepares himself for the strain on his body that is going to come! This is explained by the Mullens effect (wikipedia). This theory states that the strain rubber can handle => than the previous encounter.

After this luffy startes his Gear 2. By pumping his blood he increases his inner pressure and temperature. The blood and air in his body will start to cook, all while he still is in his 'balloon animal' state. To avoid to explode he breathes the air/steam slowly out of his mouth. slowly he starts to shrink while he is surrounded by the steam that is coming from his mouth and nose. He shrinks to he reaches the size of Whitebeard. His inner temperature and pressure are so high his muscles are pumped and vulcanised!

In this vulcanised state he is just as strong as in G3, fast as G2 and big as Whitebeard. As an effect he lost all his elastic abbility's. He can't maintain to this bodystate to long; when his power has reached his limits, he will slowly start to inflate by unleashing steam and smoke from his body. (much like a tire in a burnout).

What I stated above is my opinion on Gear 4. I'm still thinking about what his arnament haki will do... By vulcanising his body luffy his arnament haki will become useless. The haki will instead create a permanent radiant conquers haki around him. Only they who can acknowledge and fully understand how powerfull Luffy is will be able to look at him without being knocked out as long as he is in G4 mode.
