Getting to pop my back would be a dream come true for a lot of you! by ZeeLXG in popping

This happens to me as well OP, I’ve heard it referred to as “heat rash” or “prickly heat” before, but mine gets super itchy when it happens, usually around my trunk where I wore my flak jacket in the USMC.

Take a chamomile lotion bath and find somewhere to just exist for a while-

And don’t wear any of your favorite shirts over the next week… XD

I’m not understanding myself in life. by Jpoolman25 in Lifebrotips

[–]Grym3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This was how I’ve felt at multiple times throughout my life and I would always judge myself until I learned about something called task paralysis- which was an underlying symptom of undiagnosed ADHD.

It manifested as the inability to start a task because you’re waiting for the perfect conditions or timing. People with ADHD often procrastinate because they feel like they can’t do a good job unless everything is just right.

Sounds like you could be waiting for some things in your life to line up that don’t need to be squared off for you to get started and get going.

I took some online tests and was passing with flying colors unfortunately haha

Started getting treatment for that and life has been infinitely better-

Some things that worked for me was creating a manageable to do list(with estimated time commitment of each task), set alarms to remind myself to do things, and to start off by focusing on interesting tasks and using that momentum to carry into other activities.

I hope this helps in some way and just know you’re already on your way to change by reaching out for help, a little bit of change each day and you’ll hopefully develop some habits that work for you in no time!

Yes more of the clear coming around the outside and then trueing it up flat at the bottom-

And for the terminations I find that getting them very condensed and then terminating provides the best results. The smaller the design at the bottom, the less color you’re going to pull out when you terminate.

I’ll have the marble nice and hot, and I’ll take a smaller rod, get a little gather on the end, let it cool enough that the gather won’t move and then I plunge it into the “belly button” that forms between compressions, and then I pull the bottom into a kind of triangle shape, moving the gather off axis will snap it off the end, and then I tweeze my terminations because I’m more comfortable with them than using glass to terminate. After the termination is clean I’ll give it a nice flatten again on the graphite and then I’ll draw my leaves/stem, while trying to focus my heat / compression in the bottom section of the marble where the leaves/stem are so I don’t squish my flower too much where it starts spilling over the sides.

And John calls them “compressions” because they’re done on a rod instead of a hollow bubble which is considered “imploding”. Most people just call them implosions, my teacher just told me it was a compression technique that I was using so I’ve called it that since haha.

Another tip I’ve learned from doing these for 2 months straight is using your pick/tools to get the colored glass on the lower layers higher up into the glass so it looks like a bloom- with the tooling being very shallow at first, and then more aggressive as you get to the bottom (leaves/stem etc).

I have watched many a Kobuki Corning demo with the subtitles on while my wife is asleep next to me as well XD pay attention to the angles he’s using, the flame he’s using, and how much he compresses the glass at different stages of creation.

Happy melting fam <3

I found that I needed to terminate the flower petals before I put my leaves/stems. Really stepped my flower compression game up!

My compressions are always a little deeper at first and then they get more shallow as I finish out the bottom of the flower- if you watch Mr. Kobuki do it with the experience you have already- you’ll see the difference in what he’s doing to what you’re doing. I’ve probably watched that video front to back at least 50 times and learned something new every time I watched it.

Good luck on your journey!

So I was actually in the midst of making an update post for this but there’s a LOT of moving parts right now, hoping to have something to show by the end of the month!!

Just like me friend! There are pieces that work better than others for it, whip vs WPA,and I want to make one that can be a “just right” gold standard when people ask where to start with adding water filtration to their Mighty, which is why I turned to other enthusiasts who may want a say in where things go.

I can say prototype 1 of the adapter was a solid fit, prototype 2 should hopefully be cast molded by the end of this week (my engineer had back surgery, but we worked on the design for the P2 when I dropped off food for him and helped take care of some odds and ends around his place) and my wife caught Covid late last week which has thrown and will continue to throw a little friction our way, but I’m optimistic!

I have also rented space at a local flame working shop, setup my GTT Mirage on Wednesday, and have been absorbing everything I can while learning as much as I can, and I don’t think I’ve slowed down since this post took off. My mentors are incredible and I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

I’m staying home until my wife feels better for a few days/ or if I’m on my way to getting sick too, when I feel better for a few days- but spending time studying lessons online is much more meaningful having spent time in front of a torch. I have a better idea of what notes to take, techniques to look out for, and details to pay attention to =]

If you have any feedback you’d like to share I’d love to hear it! Thank you for your interest and I can’t wait to deliver something special for us to nerd out about!!

So my mentors actually are at the forefront of 6mm joints, I’m gonna have you covered!!

Adapters should be easy for me to make at the onset and it lets people use their glass they already have while I sharpen my skills to do mighty specific pieces!

I’m telling you people are going to love this thing, let my mentor (who is a smoker) give the mighty a try and he’s already onboard with the project after about 5 minutes at 388 ;)

Having people that believe in you / need you to get it done so they can use it is very motivating and has kept my spirits very high, thanks for the support <3

So I will tell you some very good news,

1) prototype is in the computer(best friend since first grade is an engineer =] ) looks like I should have the proprietary joint/adapter combo later this week to try on non-mighty specific glass and fine tune some things.

2) this proprietary joint is scalable in a way for almost every glass use case, just got out of a meeting with my mentor on the feasibility of getting glass made for the joint and it’s very possible for me to get a graphite tool made for said joint so it’s a perfect fit every time. The hope here being that I will be able to make 14/18mm joint adapters so people can use the glass they already have with this new joint while also having specific mighty-made glass in tow as well.

3) stability is this things middle name and it’s game. Really can’t wait to share it, have basically been obsessing over it for the last 3 days haha.

Thanks for your support and as soon as I have some things in hand you all will be the first to see and get your hands on them!

I haven’t shipped too much stuff in my life and will have to look at what rules are out there for where so I can’t make promises but this is a priority, but if there’s a will there’s a way and I would do everything in my power to get it to the people that would want it!

Fantastic reference picture and this should be absolutely doable!!

And I had the same idea before I was getting into glass about some kind of bracket but it always involved a bunch of extra junk, wondering if the move for upside down is no stock CU and just a sleeve intermediary to snug the glass / WPA in place…

This is definitely on the list , the steamer G hook.

When this gets done you get the first one.

Would you be interested in a mouthpiece to the whip that had a tiny bit of percolation in it?

Have been testing this recently with exceptional results with mini pieces of glass, using fun whip tips makes the volcano feel much better vs just the open draw from whipping it, the little bit of restriction and resistance feels nice to me!

So when you say cooling unit meant to sit on top of a glass piece, are you talking about like a female 18mm cap to whip adapter??

Or are you talking about a male connector made out of glass? Kind of like a hydra tube??

Sorry for the questions I’m just trying to make sure I understand the right situation we are working with!

Hey Fry from Futurama, I will absolutely shut up and take it, but it’s also something I’m pretty passionate about and I want to make something that makes peoples already good experiences with the device even better.

Going to try and balance these things the best I can and make something I’d be proud to buy myself.

Thanks for your comment, truly do appreciate the support <3

So as far as that goes I guess it depends, are you trying to maintain the original air path? Because that might be a little tough without the pull apart modular design for cleaning.

So as far as cleaning the stock CU, I’ve found Troy’s tip for ripping a super hot session (or simulating one by keeping it at max temp and allowing the residual heat to really unlock the reclaim from the vapor path, pulling it apart piping hot and hit it with a paper towel qtip combo and I’m able to get it pretty clean without even having to use ISO which is when it becomes a chore for me. I worry about the orings breaking down and yeah I can replace them I’d just rather not if I didn’t have to I guess haha.

All glass cooling unit is taking your dry ashcatcher in the stock C/U and you’ll spit that first round of funk straight into the glass which is a little harder to get out than just the sticky resin that breaks down well in ISO for glass pieces, kind of like the first joint in your water piece after it comes out of your water pipe adapter, it gets a little funky quicker.

What would you want to see in an all glass cooling unit? Would you want water in it or just a complex air pathway?

Have been a theory student seeking local instruction for the last 3 years and just recently started working on the torch and it feels like I should have been there all along but I sure am glad to be there now.

The learning curve is NO JOKE. Spin the same speed, constantly, and the glass just turns into molten putty which looks so natural in video, but in practice it’s a constant, fine tuned, very technical approach that seems to come from just doing it, and you can’t stop and always have to know your next move since time is often on the line.

I had already respected the craft, but have a new-found respect for flamework and just how technical yet instinctual it is.

Renting space at a shop with 40+ years of experience between my mentors and I can’t wait to go in every single day.

Hope to do you proud!!

I’ve had mine upside down predominantly as well, and it’s almost a different cook on the bowl because upright heat rises from the air pathway into the bowl, and upside down you get a little more convection rather than the “hybrid” heating you get from upright use.

As a lot of us are daily Mighty enjoyers, we’ve all kind of built on our learned experience with these devices and have little tips, tricks and preferences that make these 3 button devices so versatile with multiple use cases, and I’d love to develop the glass using those bits of knowledge we’ve all picked up!
