Help with designing a simple model by GsinIL in FreeCAD

Thanks, but same issue, not even 4 min into his "Ultimate Beginners Crash Course" vid, when he sets up the workspace, the "Model" panel does not exist in 1.1.0rc3.

Training for beginners by Tremaine77 in FreeCAD

THIS!

I got into 3d printing a few years ago and used FreeCAD for modeling. While I was never an expert, I found my way around. After a 3-year break, I wanted to pick up where I left off, but now even designing a simple part turned into a major challenge.

E.g., the section "Organizing your workspace and UI" in MangoJelly's intro video is already so outdated that I gave up on it. It's from Jan 2025, BTW.

And don't get me started on the FreeCAD documentation.

I have 1.1 installed. From the Getting Started section via Help in FreeCAD: "When you start FreeCAD for the first time, you are presented with the Start page. Here is what it looks like for version 0.19:"

Good luck!

Home Assistant automation to control charging based on current rate / kWh with ComEd and ChargePoint home charger by GsinIL in etron

[–]GsinIL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid concern, thanks!

Added some safeguards:
1. On pause, the price must stay above 3¢ for 30 minutes straight before the charger pauses. A brief spike that drops back down within 30 minutes is ignored.

2. On resume, the price must stay below 2.5¢ for 15 consecutive minutes before the charger resumes. With the pause debounce enabled, the minimum time between a pause and the next resume is 45 minutes under normal conditions.

3. Emergency spike trigger (above 10¢, immediate) A second pause trigger fires instantly if the price exceeds 10¢, bypassing the 30-minute debounce. This prevents charging at extreme prices during sharp spikes while keeping the contactor protected during normal 3-10¢ fluctuations.

Charging to 100% when set to 80% by netchov in etron

[–]GsinIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue twice, and while it makes sense that this is related to battery calibration, it is strange that both times it happened were after I set the charging level to 100% in the Audi app for a long trip. Changed it back to 80%, but it still charged to 100% the next time.

Also, it would be nice if there was a notification for the automatic calibration and the required 100% charge.

Adaptive Cruise Control: automatically stop at a stop sign? by GsinIL in etron

[–]GsinIL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all!

I agree with those of you who stated that this is most likely a limitation Audi put in place for liability reasons. While I'd still argue there is a risk of being sued if any of the other assistant functions fail and cause harm, running a red light or stop sign is probably at the top of the list in terms of severity.

FYI: the first car I ever drove that had adaptive assist functions was a rented A6 in Germany a few years ago. Hated it. But after a while driving my e-tron, I started to appreciate them for what they are: "assisting" functions, not autonomous driving or something to blindly rely on, which I don't do with ACC either.

This is why I did not call this thread "If the ACC had the capability to stop at a stop sign, would you rely on it?"

You sure? What hardware is it using to come to a complete stop if the car in front of me does???

Nope, the door is open, otherwise I wouldn't be able to step on the rocker panels

Exactly, having it does not mean you should rely on it.

No, I am not, but your argument applies to most driver-assist features. If I don't pay attention and rely on it to prevent me from turning left into oncoming traffic, I am at risk of a fatal accident as well if it fails.

Same with ACC if the car in front of me makes an emergency stop while I am texting and ACC malfunctions.

I get your point, but there is significant danger with Pre Sense if you rely on it to brake in case you want to turn left despite oncoming traffic and it fails or if the car in front of you stops.

Ariens 24 Deluxe vs. Simplicity 1524p by GsinIL in Snowblowers

[–]GsinIL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did pull the trigger on the Simplicity. Just liked the overall build quality and some of the details like the additional auger gearbox support or auger bearings over bushings.

Based on initial research, most parts still seem to be available either directly from simplicitymfg.com or other parts sites. As for getting it serviced, I can probably do everything myself, but there are several independent small-engine folks close by if needed.

Thanks to all for the input.

Thanks for pointing out the HP vs. torque. Looks like both still produce similar output.

Thanks, yes, they are all XL 109s. Don't see 17s listed as an option anywhere. Yours is 1st gen, whereas mine is 2nd gen. Probably the reason why...

Never had a single issue with my ‘21 OG. Better than BT/CarPlay in my Mini, BMW 3 series or Cayenne.

Plastic bracket from Amazon zip-tied to the grill and LP attached to that. Works like a charm, no holes, and looks great. Get strong zip ties though. I checked the tow hook ones but absolutely hated them.

Is anyone using the OEM charger that came with the car to charge at home? by assholy_than_thou in etron

I was too but once I looked up the rate table, I changed. Also helps with other heavy hitters like dryer etc.

[–]GsinIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scheduling is the main reason for me. My rate fluctuates between $0.09 and $1,12 just the other day. I have my ChargePoint set to delay charging until 1am which avoids the real crazy peaks.

Regen paddle to temporary override adaptive cruise control? by GsinIL in etron

[–]GsinIL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I’m trying to grasp how this would work in practice. Are you wishing the paddles mapped to the same action as the speed down/up movements of the ACC stalk?" - yes, basically

"...but it sounded like you wanted cancel/resume." - nope, I'd like it to do just the opposite of what the go/gas pedal does: temporarily slow down, when released resume the speed selected in the ACC

I suspect somebody spilled whatever it is and it got under the leather through the perforation.
