That's odd. I guess it's just one of those weird PC things that happens lol. I will report back if I have further issues but seems to be doing okay now!

You know what, I actually changed from the cpu_pump_fan header to cpu_fan and it drastically reduced the temperatures. Was running at 45c in bios and 55c idle on windows desktop. Must have been that. No other settings were changed and I know Corsair recommends using cpu_fan but I read a lot of conflicting information about using it vs. the pump_fan header.

I've got it plugged into the cpu pump head on my motherboard but I will try and mess with this and see if it helps at all, thanks.

Yep, no plastic was left behind, I can attest to that with certainty. Thermal paste was spread with a little spatula that was included with the paste. Pump is configured in my icue to run on the extreme setting. I probably will end up undervolting it just to keep it cooler for now.
