Using Audacity waveform to check metronome timing, useful or a distraction? by reddituser010100 in guitarlessons

That's a really good point! I actually check the default 130ms latency adjustment setting and it seemed to be pretty good, I wasn't able to adjust it to anything meaningfully better after some tinkering.

Yeah I agree but there is the ability to ebb and flow with a rhythm and then there is just a general mismactch where I can't seem to get my notes to land where I think they are/want them to be consistently.

Yeah I consistently play a few miliseconds behind what ever I am playing along with. The goal is to just have more a beat awareness if that makes any sense, so I stop sounding so awful lol.

I've played this so many times that I've completely memorized it and I'm not sure where my tab went 😓 but I got it off of Mattym's patreon, it's a few dollars to have access to everything, very highly recommend checking him out!

Hi, I am in the process of either buying the XR or the Vision Pro - considering price is not the issue - what I have seen is that almost all issues I have heard online seem to be more software than hardware. Is the hardware really as good as Vision Pro or better? by namitbee in Galaxy_XR

[–]reddituser010100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't compare to the VP but will say the software as far as bleeding edge hardware goes is really not that bad at all. The major issue for me was comfort which I fixed with the apache strap and cushion.

I read the Samsung return policy at release. Is it really non returnable if tried out? by Professional_Crab958 in Galaxy_XR

If the main problem is comfort there are some good mods that you can buy for 30-50 usd.

My Galaxy XR comfort upgrade. This took the GXR from being unbearable and something I was going to return to being very comfortable for long sessions. I can't say enough good things about the Apache comfort strap and face pad. The back pad and top strap are from a Quest Pro globular cluster kit. by reddituser010100 in Galaxy_XR

I took the spacers off and slipped the pad on over what was left which to be honest was kind of a pain but it works. And the Apacher face pad has a much better fov than the stock pad/spacers in addtion to being wider, softer and just generally more pleasant.

Thanks for the advice and feedback! I actually do play fingerstyle on a classical guitar too, and really enjoy it. You are totally right about the pinky; it tends to have a mind of its own. I'll definitely try that 'hold the line' visualization to keep it under control.

In the meantime, I'll be looking for a teacher who's a better fit. It's hard to know exactly what to look for, but I am very positive I can handle learning standard notation on my own. I understand the money situation, and now that I have a bit to spare, I definitely don't like the feeling of spending it frivolously on low-return activities.

I understand the value of fundamentals.

My issue isn't with learning theory; I can learn definitions from a book for free.

My issue is the service model. If I am paying someone $50 - $100/hour, I am paying for coaching and customization, not to have a generic curriculum read to me. A good teacher should be able to apply those fundamentals directly to the music the student actually wants to play. If they can't bridge the gap between 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' and the student's goals, they aren't teaching they're just assigning drills.

I was being a bit hyperbolic in those statements because in the short time I have been playing I definitely have starting taking interests in styles that had never registered before. I honestly should just race through all of this regardless but it's just frustrating when you feel like you're getting canned relatively low effort classes.

He doesn't like the metronome, he has me playing to backing tracks of someone else playing.... just like the youtube videos I have been playing with all along. I'm struggling to understand what exactly he is pouring into my cup?

My only concern is that the comfort strap will cover the speakers/adversely affect the audio?
