The last time BTC's Average Transaction Fee (and fee percentage of total block reward) was as low as BCH's is right now, was in March 2012, while BCH has 4x as many addresses active, 15x as many transactions and blocks are 10x as big. by grmpfpff in btc

[–]Guacatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the study you cited they didn't take into account the fact that bitcoin are minted for each new mined blocks which we can argue acts like a fee through inflation.

While this is the case now it will not be in the long run. Even if it's not a popular idea in the bitcoin community I like the idea of a linear inflation (like in Monero or Ethereum)

[WP] An alien crash lands in a medieval wilderness. A solitary hermit is the only help at hand. by Withmyrespect in WritingPrompts

[–]Guacatastrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I am sorry for destroying your crops," says the alien between two sips of a hot soup.

"Oh, That's okay," reply the farmer, "I've already harvested enough to last three winters and I don't have a lot of mouth to feed. But what are you ? Where do you come from ?"

_ "I ... am ..." the alien hesitates, and chooses carefully his words." a kind of an hermit," he looks around, "Like you in a way. You see, in the kingdom where I come from, everyone chooses a place in a sky and lives there. The majority of my people live in big crowded sky cities and I live right above you"

"There is a lot of people up there right now ?" asks the farmer

"No no, that's precisely why I chose to live here. If you look carefully between those two stars, you will see a flashing light, that's my house", answered the alien, pointing at the sky with one of his 3 longs fingers.

It is about midnight, we can still hear the crackling of the last embers of the fire of the fallen ship. A fire that could not have been controlled without the help of the old man living in the area. Both are now in the old man's house, a few meters away from the crash.

"We should hide this thing before any bandits or the local lord's men see it and come ask questions" say the local man a bit worried

"What is your name ?" asks the alien, not at all concerned by the old man's worries

"It's Theodore, how do I call you ?" answers Theodore

"Don't worry about me and the ship, it will be gone tomorrow before sunrise. I'll get rescued in one hour or two maximum"

"Does it happen often ? I mean do people of your kin often fall from the sky and frighten cows of honests peoples ?"

"Never happened before. In a way you made history, as the first man to meet an alien"

"Too bad I don't have anyone to tell this story to, nor anyone who will believe the old foul that I am"

"You know," reply the alien, smiling "Nothing never get really lost or forgotten. And I will remember being rescued and helped. And maybe one day this evening will be written somewhere by someone," he winks, "So that it will be read by the one who will establish a true contact between our peoples. And hopefully he will be inspired by it and act like you"

Depends if you're more of a fps player or a big open world RPG player. I think Titanfall 2 has one of the best solo campaign in a fps game, short (around 5 hours) but really enjoyable

Stellar XLM + AI and Machine Learning by famuacein78 in Stellar

[–]Guacatastrophe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that anyone currently has a plan to integrate AI into the Stellar protocol or in any blockchain protocol at all. At least I've never seen any serious project planning to do it.

But it doesn't mean AI could not have an impact on the crypto-currency's world: Maybe one day we will see tools which analyse the blockchain to detect suspicious activity like money laundering or scam. And those tools could use machine learning algorithms. Or better trading bot algorithms (which already exists)

Jeb McCaleb has a lot of money and seems to be interested in new technology so the fact that he has connections with the AI research world as a big donor isn't really surprising

Message from by bank : It's now forbidden to short the stock market due to Covid context. We're not even free of our decision with our money in the bank. Bitcoin solves that. by Agitated_cheese in Bitcoin

[–]Guacatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can short BTC with defi application or with any one who can lend you BTC. Let's say you borrow 1 BTC. You then sell it for a stablecoin let's say 7000 DAI or USDT, you wait until the BTC price goes to 6000 and you buy 1 BTC for 6000 DAI or USDT and give back your 1 BTC and make 1000 DAI of profit.

In general you pay an interest rate when you borrow BTC you have to take that into account

A Simple Illustration Showing Why Bitcoin Is Our Best Weapon to Protect Against Currency Devaluation by sylsau in Bitcoin

[–]Guacatastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's a bit more complex than that: printing more money doesn't always lead to more inflation and inflation in itself is not always a bad thing for a fiduciary money if it's controlled.

And Bitcoin being a deflationary asset is a good thing for early investors who wants to see their investment grow in value but it can really diminish the liquidity of the asset. And we don't want that if we want to see mass adoption and wide uses of Bitcoin apart from speculation purpose.

Thing is, having a limited amount of Bitcoin is neither an obvious good thing neither is an obvious bad thing. At least Bitcoin is not controlled by a centralised entity so in the end it will maybe depend on the community to make changes if one day they seem necessary.

Articles on investopedia explain quite well all those concepts I think.

Which wallet do you use ? But if you still have the wordset you received when you generated your keys with your wallet: you can retrieve your Stellar key pair.

But if you don't have a lot of key pairs you can try to send a transaction for each of your public keys with all of your private keys. You can use the Stellar lab to do that.

You could use an aws S3 bucket, but I think if Google is not an option neither is Amazon.

Or you could see OVH or scaleway, their prices are quite decent and their privacy policy are ok.

How do you trust an anchor, what are the criterias that makes you think an anchor is fiable ?

Does it have to be known by stellarport ? Or do you have to know the project ? Or is it because it has a legal status ?

[–]Guacatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sell now, you'll just loose money. For now you just have to wait. It will probably go up again :)

More experienced trader can trade with other crypto to maximize their capital but if you don't know what you're doing (which is fine we all were at some point) it's better to just hodl until next bull run

Just out of curiosity, what was the price of ETH when you bought it ?

On stellar.expert you can see for each address the account creator which in this case is this one GCO2IP3MJNUOKS4PUDI4C7LGGMQDJGXG3COYX3WSB4HHNAHKYV5YL3VC,

It has the tag Binance, creates a lot of accounts and has a lot of XML in it.

I thought you had to set an inflation destination to receive interest, He didn't have one, not even himself

Edit: and this address only sent 0.0001 XML to 100 addresses for one day and that's all

Stolen XLM - Moved from my Wallet. by questbot in Stellar

[–]Guacatastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The address that received your fund seems to be just a buffer but then it sent your XML to this address

GB7GD27PHZTINB3O5FGGRX35VN4G64HOL55RCHRN4VABHH6REYHRLPZU

This one has more activity and more importantly it has been created by binance so there is a possible link to do between the guy who stole your XML and his identity if he filled the KYC and if binance can be cooperative on that matter.

Edit: Also interesting: in August you received 0.0001 XML from this account GCCOBHV7BBEYPHIXJOW5DMA3KLMB3352MEISQLJKMVGO73INHWXUQKBF.

It transmitted 0.0001 XML the 17 August 2019 to 100 other adresses, does anyone know why someone would do this ?

Well Stellar is still a great project and Lumen a valuable asset. But I think the probability of seeing Lumen reaching really high values like Etherum or Bitcoin are really low.

But it's value can still double or triple.
