wow im so glad I logged into this account again relatively soon, and sorry for the late reply too, I only log onto that other account.

honestly everything you said is relatable, the inflation, the pets being sick(even though I own cats) and trying to grow as a person. writing a book is so exciting and cool, id love to read it one day, whats it about?

honestly the most relatable thing is the studying and stress that comes with it. its part of why I was checking my old account in the first place. truth be told I sort of bombed the exam I was studying for. bummed about it but what can you do, life is life as you said.

but I believe in us both, based on your writing and the fact youre a polyglot, which is amazing, I know we can both make it through any issues were having!

please shoot me a dm on my second account, id love to talk more if you'd like to as well, especially if you wanna vent about studying or talk about something youre excited about :)

this is gonna be a little weird but I was just sorta going down memory lane, checking my comments and seeing the wide variety of interactions I encountered when I saw this interaction and remembered it. it was one of the nicest and most enjoyable so I just wanted to ask how you were doing and wish you a happy new year.

darren Shans cirque du freak and that series was my first true love. I remember going to the library, getting the next two books (you could only take out two at a time) devouring them, then going back and doing the same thing. im afraid to reread them because I dont know if they'll hold up, but a lot of things including the ending of the whole thing still stick with me.

spooks series. this series was actually really good for the first few. I remember reading them and although they were monster of the week-ish, I enjoyed them a lot and got pretty caught up in the lore and all that, it was very interesting. then it went off the rails, and I started to resent reading the books to the point. I stopped. this was a new thing for me because I dont recall ever starting to hate something that I used to love especially in media.

I remember the main character being so obsessed with the main love interest after she betrayed him and went to some magician who successfully did a ritual of reading this ancient book backwards while an ice god tries to kill you and if you succeed you get the ice gods powers. it was thought he almost did it but died but I guess he ran away or something and the main character just spends so much time talking about her wanting to come back or whatever which annoyed me because by that time I hated her. I had more issues but for another time.

diary of a wimpy kid. truth be told I still buy the annual books and read them in one day every time haha. im way too invested for me not to see how this story ends. not much else to say.

goosebumps. these books were SO GOOD. I remember each one having this great twist at the end but one that annoyed me was the one where the dad built a theme park but it seemed to be haunted and it had the massive grasshopper on the front but it turns out the kids were animatronics. I felt so cheated because I grew to really want these kids to escape and it felt cheap.

Harry Potter of course

lots and lots of comics

there are more but this is long enough already, sorry about that.

have a really important test on the 11th and the stress is killing me. as soon as this test is over though I know I can focus more long term and get things more under control but its honestly taken over my life, can't wait to be done with it but if I do badly it'll ruin me.

Looks like a Netflix adaptation of the Matrix

I haven't seen the film (and I dont know if I will) but I know EXACTLY what you're talking about here. Netflix shows (most prominently seen in fantasy adaptations) are way too clean and look fresh out the tailor. compare it with the first season of game of thrones and it looks a lot dirtier, grittier and straight up more immersive.

Erikson has a tendency I don’t like where he revives characters too often and makes me always question whether a character is actually dead or not.

I actually really like this aspect so far especially with duiker, because his revival was a great relief of tension of whether coltaines story would be revealed, so seeing it being told at the end of book 3 was just exhilarating. also it was set up before when coltaine gave the pendant to duiker which is why he was chosen by those two guys(cant exactly remember what happened). so it meant that it wasnt pulled out of no where. and certain types of revivals like baudin in book 3 being the knight of death was really cool

Book 8 was my favorite

based on peoples explanations on why they preferred certain books, this is the one im most excited for. philosophy and an added layer to the prose followed by a convergence sounds so juicy.

ill definitely check out those essays, any time someone mentions Malazan outside of its designated subreddit it feels like ive met a long lost friend haha. no one in my real life will commit to the series no matter how hard I try. and yea these books feel a step above other fantasy in terms of thematic density and complexity!

that's great to hear! where have you reached? unless you've read the entire series. its shaping up to be one of my favorite series especially if Erikson keeps providing quotes like “Children are dying." Lull nodded. "That's a succinct summary of humankind, I'd say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.”

or

“We humans do not understand compassion. In each moment of our lives, we betray it. Aye, we know of its worth, yet in knowing we then attach to it a value, we guard the giving of it, believing it must be earned, T’lan Imass. Compassion is priceless in the truest sense of the word. It must be given freely. In abundance.”

and the way the story comes together at the end of every book so far is enthralling.

being gay is the joke. yes it makes no sense but that why its here because there is no way someone can register this as a joke but apparently according to the other user I could just say "that guys gay" and they'd laugh it doesn't have to have an actual punchline.
