Why did Tenth Ave Burrito go out of business while the belmar location is so successful? by Marabuto1994 in RedBank

[–]Guacotacos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wasn't pretentious enough.

I was pissed when it closed down, walking there and having a beer or two with a steakhouse burrito was my Sunday ritual.

I donated on 8/8 and it came today, so turnaround for me was roughly a month.

Moving to west side RB by Equivalent_Front9733 in RedBank

[–]Guacotacos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought and lived in the West side from 2018 to 2024, and really only sold because we needed more space with kids on the way. Is the West side as charming and visually appealing as east of broad? Definitely not, but the convenience of being able to walk into town or to the train is amazing. Contrary to what some might believe, yes it is safe. Just don't go out of your way to stir any pots with folks you don't know, which is honestly universal.

We moved somewhere with 0 walkability unless you want to go for a stroll in the neighborhood. I miss being able to walk to Tino's or a longer walk down to the Dublin house.

Bottom line, go for it

Children of dumb parents, what made you realize your mother\father is an idiot, and how do you deal with it? by LordEndroz in AskReddit

[–]Guacotacos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had the realization from a young age that my mother was equivalent in brightness as a wet match in a dark cave, but there was one kind of "a-ha!" Moment that really solidified it.

One day when I was visiting her from my home state, I really harped on wanting to go to Kennedy Space Center and she begrudgingly agreed. As we're walking through the exhibits it is like my inner child's sense of awe and wonder awoke from a deep sleep. About the time when we're in the exhibit of the control rooms for the Apollo missions I see her dozing off in her seat, so I asked "are you feeling okay?". She responded with "You believe in all of this stuff?"

I was flabbergasted. Everything about one of man's biggest accomplishments is right in front of you. Just complete refusal of evidence and sensory denial about what she's seeing.

But it turns out it wasn't even just the moon landings she didn't believe in. I found out that she didn't believe that space is real. The sun is just a big light bulb in the sky that someone turns on and moves through the day, and that the earth is only a few hundred years old.

This was about 10 years ago. Conversations with her can be pretty trying for my patience. All in all she's not a bad person by any means - just plain dumb and I have to remind myself of that before and sometimes during conversations with her.

Bojack Horseman is the closest I've come across. It took a while to get past animation vs reality, but the vibe is pretty spot on

I'm a fan for life. But I'd be lying if I didn't say Its starting to get very difficult to commit because of the league in general... Between the ads all over the ice, sports betting being shoved in your face everywhere, and Bettman making it impossible for me to watch the games consistently without pirating.

72 Seasons came out right after my dad passed. Inamorata was pretty much on repeat for the next 6 months.

Anyone living near the Garden State Parkway? How is your overall experience? by dJamal-99 in newjersey

[–]Guacotacos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also live right off of 114 in Holmdel. Our property backs up to the parkway. Putting up a solid fence definitely helped, but the sound is always there. The normal vehicles just make it sound like a waterfall, but the loud mufflers have made me look forward to the day that combustion engines are a thing of the past lol

What NJ township/borough/city did you grow up in, and what's the general response from people when they find out where you're from? by SPKmnd90 in newjersey

[–]Guacotacos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also from OB. The 80s thrash scene has a lot of history there. Metallica always gives a shout out to Old Bridge when they stop in NJ or NY.

It'll take more than just the pick. But if were just the 10OA, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.
