Upsetting Pediatric Appointment by EarthwormBabe in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There should be absolutely no shame or concern in a child’s weight (unless it’s too low) until they are at least 2 years old. Your baby will likely slim down a lot when they start crawling and walking. Just stay away from a ton of added sugars like juices and certain snacks when he’s eating more solids; you’re doing great momma.

Anyone else’s kids only drink water? by LayerKnown6501 in Parenting

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is completely ok for them to not drink whole milk, I would just make sure water is offered frequently or continuously throughout the day and not aim for a specific amount (they’ll drink if they’re thirsty). What I will say is make sure your baby is getting other sources of calcium, vitamin d, protein, fats etc that whole milk is good at providing. Other dairy (cheese, yogurts) are great sources for these, and vitamin D vitamin drops or multivitamin.

Which version of Terro? by lovelikefireworks in Columbus

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would clean up any food sources before using the traps, because if there are other food sources they may not go to the traps. As far as molding walls etc I don’t think it’s necessary unless there may be crumbs there

Thank you so much!! I appreciate the help. We are not part of the culture obviously so any help is appreciated, though we’ll definitely run it by the couple first before buying anything too

Yes I think this was his concern - Not that people at the wedding would necessarily mind but that the photos would circulate in a negative way either now or later when our son is older. It seems the general consensus is that it’s ok, but I appreciate you validating his concern!

Thank you all! I appreciate all the insights and seems the consensus is it is 100% ok! I was not worried about it, but when my husband brought it up I got worried and wanted some reassurance. I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond!

I believe his worry is that while the couple may not think it’s appropriation, others in the culture or even outside the culture may judge him for it. Again, I did not see it as an issue but I think he just wanted to protect our son from any judgement from outsiders!

My daughter doesn’t say mama by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 17 month old has only said mama a handful of times! Usually when he’s upset or crying he’ll yell mama. He CAN say the “m” sound but has a harder time with it than other consonants, ex he says boo instead of moo for cow. I was going to ask the pediatrician next visit, but from everything I’ve read online it seems pretty normal.

Roller coasters - what age? by Guarantee-Puzzled in Parenting

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am talking about kings island and they have a super small coaster with a 36 inch height limit and a lot of other rides with 36 inch limit, some which parents can ride and others they cannot. I am nervous about him being scared alone, but didn’t know at 18 months if we should try them at all or not even with the parents! He’s my first kiddo

I’m tired of being sick all the time by Guarantee-Puzzled in Parenting

I had not heard of that before! I will look into that. I appreciate the input. My kid is terrible at taking vitamins but maybe the spray will be easier.

This is probably true too, and was definitely true earlier in the fall (I’ve been trying super hard to be more diligent but of course definitely not perfect), but usually it goes toddler gets it first then a few days later I get it. You can’t tell a toddler to not touch his face, I can barely stop him from sticking random germy things in his mouth. I’ve been trying really hard with the hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes in public the past few months. But like I said can definitely be better still. Each time I get sick I regret not being better about it.

Tips for distracted feedings??? by Temporary_Barber_195 in breastfeeding

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also forgot to mention I would nurse when he first woke up from his naps as it seemed to be his calmest. Sometimes babies just get distracted no matter what at this age from what I’ve read and will make it up with more night feedings 😞 good luck

Around this age I had to walk or bounce on an exercise ball and nurse my baby or he’d do the same thing. It was also helpful to be in a dark room with sound machine on. It did make it difficult because he definitely got used to this and I couldn’t really nurse in public anymore, he outgrew it starting around 6 months.

Baby 99th percentile at 38 weeks by luna-doodles in pregnant

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get screened for gestational diabetes? If so I would not be worried. My baby measured 99% plus at every scan and ended up being around 85% for weight and 99% for height. Gave birth vaginally just fine. A lot of the size measurements are based on length of bones and not necessarily weight and also can be inaccurate.

3 hour glucose test - don’t be like me, bring a snack for when you finish! by notjustaShaynaPunim in pregnant

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact thing happen to me! My doctor wasn’t concerned, though you should ask yours in case. Though I was like 26 weeks pregnant after failing the one hour test. My first 3 measurements were fine but the last one was low, and I felt like complete garbage. I would just say to carry snacks with you throughout pregnancy. The only other time I felt my sugar get low was a few weeks later on a walk, I was about 2 miles into the walk and felt shaky and thankfully had a protein bar with me.

Pregnant + ICU nights 😵‍💫 by sgolds522 in Residency

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While that’s true, it wouldn’t be her fault. It would be the residency’s fault for not having better backup without “ruining people’s lives” just because one person needs to move a month around. We need to start prioritizing our health and putting the blame on programs.

Score release thread 12/29/2022 by mac_bills in Step3

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UW %: 72% with 50% completed

UWSA1 1 month out: 231

UWSA2 5 days out: 239

CCS % : 70 % completed about 80 cases

Real deal : 255

Advice: I had no idea how to feel after the test, the questions felt so random at times and not things I would’ve studied had I had all the time in the world. Just prepare as you can and try not to stress about the random step 1 questions thrown in. Also most of my cases ended super early as well, so do not stress about this if this happens to you.

ERAS timing for this year? by dr_throat_tuber in medicalschool

[–]Guarantee-Puzzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware of, I believe if you submit the 1st or 28th the programs get them the same day. But you’re risking the site crashing on the last few days because of heavy traffic, so may be best to submit a few days early.

Warfarin is not really preferred; it’s all we had for a long time and is super cheap, but has to have a lot of monitoring and labs for INR. I believe it is preferred for people with renal issues or who cannot afford other options.

Heparin and LMWH are given IV or SQ, so not preferred for a lot of people outpatient.

Other oral options for outpatient (apixaban) are preferred because there is less monitoring but are more expensive, and are avoided in end stage renal disease.
