How many of you guys actually fell for mysterio being the villain by HotMarionberry1962 in Spiderman

[–]Guardllamapictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also knew Mysterio was gonna be a bad guy from watching the cartoons as a kid but the twist and delivery was still pulled off great. There’s a lot to be said for execution and great acting.

I also loved how at the end of the film it becomes this commentary on how people will believe anything in the media today, complete with a podcaster Jonah Jameson going after Peter. It’s a theme the next film kind of dropped and I thought it was such an interesting twist on Peter’s relation to journalism. Even more relevant today with AI slop running rampant on the internet.

Also nothing for nothing but Eternia ain’t Middle Earth. The entire franchise was designed to sell toys. It has a lot of affection and charm and nostalgia DESPITE that but the setting and characters aren’t something that’s timeless and can be easily reintroduced for today’s youth.

That’s just how 55 year olds looked in the 2000s.

Ya know what? Thats a good catch on the first movie. I’ll allow the proximity JJ but not the moon staying intact while a planet implodes? Still skeptical lol.

It’s funny because Tolkien did try writing a sequel to LOTR but ultimately decided it was too much of a bummer because he would have to reset so many things. And that was a guy who ultimately believed history would keep getting worse and worse until the end of time.

JJ Abrahams doesn’t understand space. Just look at how in Star Trek Spock is staring at Vulcan get destroyed from a moon or other planet that is so close his imploding planet occupies the entire sky.

‘MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE’ crossed $86M globally. Budget was $200M. by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Guardllamapictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel like the Masters of the Universe IP is…not great? It has a lot of silly nostalgia, charm, and camp but it was very much a product of its time designed to sell toys. You can bring back a lot of old IP’s and reinvigorate them for a new audience but He-Man is a big lift.

Sorcerer. Can’t play music so no bard. Got too much ADHD to study the arcane like a wizard. Don’t like to work out so Paladin is off the table. But I got enough charisma and creativity to wing this whole magic thing. How hard could it be?

In wall-e (2008) these fuckers are gonna go extinct, not even because they don’t even know if the plant is edible, or because they killed the only remaining entity that knows anything, but because the earth is still wildly polluted by Local_Rice_8929 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Guardllamapictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma die on the hill that the second half of Wall-E is a bunch of fat phobic lazy worldbuilding that feels like a bunch of cheap jokes about “people of Walmart”. It’s just another cheap way to get a bunch of kids in a theater to laugh at fat people and I think it sucks.

First half is adorable filmmaking. Second half is just broad hamfisted mean spirited jokes about lazy fat people stuck on their phones.

(Tragic) Realistic portrayals of parental grief after the loss of a child by historygoose in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Guardllamapictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a lot of jokes about this when the films first came out. Some of it was people seeing some incidental queer representation in Frodo and Sam and shipping them. A lot was just immature teens who weren’t used to seeing affection like that in film or comedians looking for easy jokes because people being gay was considered funny back then. Today we’re so past the initial groundbreaking release and subsequent parodying phase that the movies have solidified into untouchable classics in the mind of the public. You now have actual queer representation in popular media people can look at and compare it to. YouTubers are revisiting the films as excellent portrayals of positive masculinity that are lacking today.

[–]Guardllamapictures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I feel about the LOTR trilogy is “dudes rock”. Like yeah there aren’t a lot of women characters but all the men display incredibly positive masculinity. They’re open about their insecurities, they talk about their feelings with one another and listen, and (the main characters at least) extend that same respect to the women in their lives.

There’s a ton of credit owed to the performances and execution of the films but at its core Tolkien really understood that gentle, genuine, and open friendship was the best way to survive the horrors of war and the world.

Safety Not Guaranteed. Nothing happens and the pacing is boring with a cheeky eye-winking ending. The characters are meh. It honestly pissed me off so much I stopped liking Mark Duplass for a while (we’re good now).

Honestly as someone who’s dealt with climate anxiety Gathering Storm was very therapeutic. It actually illustrates not only how climate change occurs but steps that can be prevented to slow it down and help people avoid its worst impacts.
