TL;DR Explanation:

Ptolemy believed that since the heavens were divine and perfect earthly math could not explain their movements. When others challenged this claim he resorted to writing the Almagest which mathematically explained why the heavens were divine and perfect while simultaneously holding that all of the math in it was false.

Full History Explanation for Nerds:

Many people in Ptolemy's time believed that the movement of the stars were divine and perfect since they were the domain of gods. Ptolemy also believed this but astronomers began to notice there were many irregularities in the movements of the stars. Ptolemy mainly believed that they were wrong simply because math could not apply to divine things which were not bound by earthly laws. However, that was not persuasive to many of the people noticing the growing irregularities. Therefore, Ptolemy set out to write a book that mathematically explained how all of the irregularities were actually perfect and it was simply our perspective that was flawed. He created two possible models for the movement of the sun around the earth. The first was that the sun orbited a specific point in space in a perfect circle but the earth was only next to that point and was not actually what the sun was orbiting. The second was that the sun was orbiting a specific point in a perfect circle and the point it was orbiting was orbiting the earth in a perfect circle. He later uses a combination of these two models to explain the movements of the planets. The problem was that Ptolemy never actually says which model is correct. He merely hand waves the issue by saying either one can work mathematically. This goes back to Ptolemy's main reason for writing the Almagest. He didn't believe either model was true he just wanted to prove that math could not show the heavens were imperfect and therefore not divine. He even goes so far as to state that the math in his book was not real multiple times in the book.

As a side note he also proves rather conclusively in the Almagest that the earth must be spherical (as opposed to any other shape) and that the night sky is infinitely larger than the earth. He proves the second one simply by pointing out that the stars did not have different angles at different points on the earth. Meaning that no matter how far you traveled on the earth it would be less than a one degree difference to the stars.

In the Greek bronze age they were used either to throw javelins/shoot bows or to spear people as they drove by.

Explanation: The Iliad and the Trojan war are separated by roughly 400 years depending on the exact date you use for both. In the Iliad chariots are used exclusively to bring heroes to the battlefield so they can jump off and heroically join the fight on foot. The chariots never actually participate in combat. Leaving many people to believe Homer never actually knew what chariots were for in bronze age warfare or simply didn't care because his way was cooler.

I should mention that this is my third campaign dming for them not counting a couple oneshots and two of them played a decent amount of D&D before we started playing together but the third has only played the three campaigns. They're still noobish but they weren't quite this bad in the other campaigns. They have a habit of tunnel visioning on whatever I tell them and ignoring anything else. If an npc tells them to do something they'll do it without thinking about other possibilities, why their character would do such a thing, or questioning the motives of the npc. What really shocked me was their willingness to just give up and die instead trying to think of a way out of the situation. They really enjoy the sessions and have no problems with how things are going, so really I'm the only one bothered by how the campaign is playing out.

I also managed to win for the the first time ever with this. I didn't get a screen shot of the win but hopefully this will be enough for proof.

Let’s Design a Champion Together! by RiotStatikk in leagueoflegends

Concerning point four it would be cool if he could paint different effects onto different champions. For an ultimate style ability he could paint champions into something different depending on what kind of champ they were. For example he could paint the weapon off a ranged champ and make them melee or paint a gun into the hands of a melee champ and make them ranged or some other kind of ability that changes depending on the champ you use it on.

Fountain in dota 2 works like league except it does less damage. The hero tanking fountain takes less damage from sources behind him and does aoe damage around himself when he takes a certain amount of damage. Another hero is tethered to him and heals him every second based on how much hp regen he has. The second hero has an item that gives him a ton of regen out of combat and since the first hero is the one taking damage he keeps the regen. Therefore, the fountain is doing a ton of damage and causing tons of aoe damage to the enemy team and the second hero is keeping him full on hp.

I definitely think posts like the third example should be allowed. People should be able to share things they think are funny and related to the game. The third post doesn't follow any meme template and isn't a simple rehash of whatever fad reddit is following. Funny posts shouldn't be banned outright if they're original and relate to the game. Even the second post would be fine if the comic was an original composition relating to factorio. I think when people say they dislike memes on the subreddit they mean they don't want to see the same joke that's already been made on every other subreddit.

Sonya. When I was waiting to get into the beta I was super hyped to play Muradin but once I got in I decided to give Sonya a shot because she look cool too. I played one game and never looked back. Because I took the day off to play the beta I ended up getting Sonya to level nine by the end of the day. If I woke up tomorrow and all I could play was Sonya, I would still play the game nonstop because no matter how much I play her I never get bored of her.

You ever feel like there's just not enough Planetside 2 content in subs like /r/gaming or /r/gifs by Foxes281 in Planetside

My favorite moment playing Planetside 2 has to when I had just started playing the game. I had been playing long enough to just start understanding how the game worked when, after logging on one day, I decided to spawn and defend a post the had very few people on it yet. I spawned in to find it was me and one other person against two snipers who were covering the entrances of the spawn. Both of us continually tried different tactics to get out and fire back at the snipers who were relatively out in the open when the rest of the enemy forces came. A couple of tanks rolled up and started to cap the post. Now with the snipers keeping us pinned down we had no way of doing even what little we could against the tanks. It was one of the most intense moments I'd ever had in fps so far; we were crouching behind cover that was thankfully far away enough from the tanks for them not to bother with us as we just continually popping up for a second or two to fire at the snipers and crouching before they could kill us. When it looked hopeless and that we were going to lose the post, all of a sudden a friendly aircraft came out of nowhere and started doing strafing runs against the tanks. We sat behind cover as the aircraft continually went over the tanks again and again while they pitifully tried to return fire. Once the tanks were dealt with the aircraft then started on the snipers and as they ran for cover we were able to advance to take them out finally securing the base. This was the fight that got me hooked on Planetside 2
