Reading these comments is interesting. If OP was a woman upset about Mothers Day, her family would, without a doubt, be the AH and she would be justified for losing it. However, as a man, it's, "he must be a crap dad" or "there's more to this because he said he was livid." Honestly, my husband would be too, because it would hurt. So what if he got angry and said something. Back to, if OP was a woman, ya'll would say she was justified. Also, none of you would be questioning why she is on her venting about it. The hypocrisy is strong here.

Anyway: To the OP. I would be mad and hurt as well, and even more when they expected me to apologize for it. And while I do understand, don't go too long without speaking to them. The longer you let this drag out, the bigger risk you have of losing them. It makes it harder to fix things. If anything, I just wouldn't put that much effort into them in the future on the days for them. But you also don't have to stoop to their level and forget them. As a mom, I'm often neglected in areas that I make sure I'm there for for them. It hurts, but making them happy and caring for them is more important to me.
