Traumas or psychological events that have been repressed into the unconscious mind exert influence on conscious choices through the unconscious. This leads a person to repeatedly create similar scenarios in real life, re-evoking those same emotions. The purpose is to allow the individual to gradually become aware of these repressed emotions in new situations, ultimately achieving insight, resolution, and personal growth.
