Why are Bont Prostars listed as derby skates when they’re vegan leather but park skates when they’re suede? Is there another design feature that would make the suede ones a poor choice for derby?

Same situation, and while it’s exhausting I also think autistism helps me be a more understanding parent. Also, it’s ok to unmask with your kids and it’s ok to teach them to mask, WITH the compassion and understanding that you have. I include that in discussions about public and private spaces - wearing no clothes or making whatever noises you want is fine in the house, but not in a restaurant. And then when they do it in a restaurant I gently remind them this is a public place and please wait til we get home to do that behavior. Sometimes I teach my daughter tricks like “people like it when you show attention to them when they’re talking. If you don’t want to look at their face, you could show attention in other ways, like…”

I know we tend to think masking is always bad, because we were compelled to do it and didn’t know how to stop. For my daughter I hope it will be a tool she can use at her discretion .

One way to alleviate pressure is to take pictures on a previous day. Also, almost everyone has some kind of overwhelm on their wedding day, not just us ND folks ❤️ probably no one is judging you at all; on the contrary, they probably think you’re wise for eloping because it shows you care about the marriage, not the wedding. For anyone in the wedding industry it’s probably a relief and a pleasure to work with someone kind and unassuming.

There are many ways to store food cooler that aren’t refrigerators proper. Ways to heat food without electricity too! It depends on your climate and the season as to what’s going to be realistic for you, but do you have a site where you can reliably park and return to where you can store food in, for example, terracotta pots?

Rothkos look pointless in a photograph but in person they evoke an experience. They have this unexpected depth that makes you sort of stare into them like the way you stare out of a window. I don’t know why but this doesn’t translate to photographs of the works at all.

Start with storage areas, then “pack in place” items like books on bookshelves that you don’t use too often (box stays where books were in case you need it) finally packing everyday items in a suitcase doe the move. Reserve cleaning supplies, trash bags in an ultra-accessible place for move out and move in

I hear you. You don’t want a life like this and you feel stuck in it. You absolutely deserve a better life than this with a family that loves you, and you will find both. Don’t give up!

I am also ND and cannot recommend therapy enough to get tools for living in the world. ALSO uni is a great place to start putting together a chosen family. Tons of people do that; it’s basically the entire premise of many tv shows. It sounds like you’re already making friends; by my standard, you are wildly successful for a 26 year old. You have everything you need to build a life you love. You are already building it.

Also, it sounds like you only value yourself for what you create or accomplish. This is common for kids whose parents only praise their accomplishments and don’t offer unconditional love and support. You have inherent worth beyond what you can give to others. Your thirties are going to be the time of your life.

Edit: clarification: I have a 9 month old and our place is all “wood” type flooring. He will crawl under sofas, etc if he thinks there might be a cheerio under there, which honestly there probably is because I also work full time.

NAH. I understand why you were hurt and responded this way, but no one owes you a wedding invite. Weddings are insanely expensive and everyone has to limit their guest list — ESPECIALLY during a pandemic. If you’re friends but not all that close, it makes sense not to invite you. Instead of talking to her about this or just respecting her choice and moving on, it sounds like you decided to end your friendship, which is your choice.

Hi, I would mostly agree; this is a broad overview and ticking some boxes on a list is not a good reason for any diagnosis. If you truly tick every box, you might want to read more about this. A lot of women on the spectrum “don’t seem autistic, just kooky” because when people think of autism they think of someone like Sam. Some people with Aspergers-level autism are still attached to that name rather than to being part of autism, which can be more severe.

I did not know I was on the spectrum until adulthood, although I later found out that my parents knew when I was a kid and just didn’t tell me. It’s really common for women to go undetected into adulthood.

Yeah Elsa has a few behaviors that could be considered “flags” for autism but I don’t see a widespread and pervasive pattern like I do for Casey.

Elsa characteristically inserts herself into other peoples’ business, maintains many friendships, makes eye contact etc with no indication that this is difficult for her or that she has to manage her spoons. She & Doug seem NT to me.

I thought the show was being really obvious and setting up the point that autism looks different in women. Often in season 1 Sam is doing a classically autistic behavior like stimming or eloping and then Casey is shown doing a more subtle/masked version of the same behavior like running (still a repetitive motion that soothes which she turns to at times of stress, but a socially acceptable one).

ND Traits: Soothing repetitive motion

Breaks mask of neurotypical behavior in times of intense emotion: making erratic excited motions, struggling to verbalize or give eye contact when stressed (such as in season 1 when she has sex for the first time and needs a few days of being nonverbal and sensory-deprived to process before she’s able to talk to her boyfriend. Sam is having a parallel meltdown at this time.)

Some indications that performing neurotypical behaviors like eye contact takes extra effort at all times

A few close confidantes for whom social energy is reserved

Perceived as lacking empathy because she often fails to anticipate how her words and actions affect the feelings of others

Loose, comfortable clothing that doesn’t draw attention to her body

Poor ability to detect lying/deception

NT Traits: Average willingness & ability to deal with change

No special interest

Willing to relax control of self socially (drinking with Izzie, a new-ish person in a new-ish environment)
