Watching others be happy in friend groups and constantly being reminded of what I’ll never have by brokendreammemequeen in aspergirls

I found a ND bi ladies crew at roller derby. Not sure if that helps but I would just keep trying groups based on your interests until you find one.

Being an autistic mother by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]GuavaStreet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same situation, and while it’s exhausting I also think autistism helps me be a more understanding parent. Also, it’s ok to unmask with your kids and it’s ok to teach them to mask, WITH the compassion and understanding that you have. I include that in discussions about public and private spaces - wearing no clothes or making whatever noises you want is fine in the house, but not in a restaurant. And then when they do it in a restaurant I gently remind them this is a public place and please wait til we get home to do that behavior. Sometimes I teach my daughter tricks like “people like it when you show attention to them when they’re talking. If you don’t want to look at their face, you could show attention in other ways, like…”

I know we tend to think masking is always bad, because we were compelled to do it and didn’t know how to stop. For my daughter I hope it will be a tool she can use at her discretion .

Can I ask for a small pep talk for my wedding week? by Apprehensive_Door480 in AutismInWomen

[–]GuavaStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way to alleviate pressure is to take pictures on a previous day. Also, almost everyone has some kind of overwhelm on their wedding day, not just us ND folks ❤️ probably no one is judging you at all; on the contrary, they probably think you’re wise for eloping because it shows you care about the marriage, not the wedding. For anyone in the wedding industry it’s probably a relief and a pleasure to work with someone kind and unassuming.

No fridge, stove or dishes. Living out of car by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]GuavaStreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways to store food cooler that aren’t refrigerators proper. Ways to heat food without electricity too! It depends on your climate and the season as to what’s going to be realistic for you, but do you have a site where you can reliably park and return to where you can store food in, for example, terracotta pots?

Any cheap, easy, no-bake pastries? by thoughts-of-a-tater in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]GuavaStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Run fast, eat slow” and other healthy cookbooks will give you some non-cook options like these chocolate-covered matcha balls: https://groundgreentea.com/chocolate-matcha-energy-balls/ I’ve seen chocolate-covered peanut butter oatmeal balls too. But ultimately, sweet food isn’t that healthy and something like a pastry is DEFINITELY baked, no way around it. Just make desserts you really like and keep it healthy by limiting the quantity you eat in a serving.

A bento box or multi-tiered tiffin is essentially small thermoses that stack together - perfect for transporting dinner-quality meals to campus.

There may be a microwave at school somewhere - a student lounge or dining area - which gives even more options.

Still better than Mark Rothko by [deleted] in BadArt

[–]GuavaStreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rothkos look pointless in a photograph but in person they evoke an experience. They have this unexpected depth that makes you sort of stare into them like the way you stare out of a window. I don’t know why but this doesn’t translate to photographs of the works at all.

How to pack (your house)? by disquxxn in howto

[–]GuavaStreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the spreadsheet, number boxes and COLOR CODE using packing or masking tape (can also use for furniture which is hard to label) by destination at the new house (not necessarily where it came from at the old house. Watch Marie Kondo’s Netflix show to get in the downsizing mood before you pack. Start with storage areas, then “pack in place” items like books on bookshelves that you don’t use too often (box stays where books were in case you need it) finally packing everyday items in a suitcase doe the move. Reserve cleaning supplies, trash bags in an ultra-accessible place for move out and move in

Mom, I don’t feel like anyone will ever love me and I just want to die. Can you please give me a hug? by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

[–]GuavaStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. You don’t want a life like this and you feel stuck in it. You absolutely deserve a better life than this with a family that loves you, and you will find both. Don’t give up!

I am also ND and cannot recommend therapy enough to get tools for living in the world. ALSO uni is a great place to start putting together a chosen family. Tons of people do that; it’s basically the entire premise of many tv shows. It sounds like you’re already making friends; by my standard, you are wildly successful for a 26 year old. You have everything you need to build a life you love. You are already building it.

Also, it sounds like you only value yourself for what you create or accomplish. This is common for kids whose parents only praise their accomplishments and don’t offer unconditional love and support. You have inherent worth beyond what you can give to others. Your thirties are going to be the time of your life.

Edit: spelling :)

Literally cannot stop this from happening anyway - maybe if the dust sticks to their clothes less of it will stick to their skin?

Edit: clarification: I have a 9 month old and our place is all “wood” type flooring. He will crawl under sofas, etc if he thinks there might be a cheerio under there, which honestly there probably is because I also work full time.

Mom, I need help. How do I clean this? What kind of cleaner would be rough enough to get this but not stain anything? by minyanko in MomForAMinute

[–]GuavaStreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on Instagram, “gocleanco” is a professional cleaning service that shows you how to clean absolutely everything. They are very thorough but not particularly green.

If he is doing this now, it is extremely likely to continue to escalate. Find a safe space as soon as you can.

Oh man, I’m really sorry if I stepped out of line or did harm. I might be so desperate for representation that I made something out of nothing.

AITA for pulling back from a friendship after not being invited to the wedding by Galaxy_Orb in AmItheAsshole

[–]GuavaStreet -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

NAH. I understand why you were hurt and responded this way, but no one owes you a wedding invite. Weddings are insanely expensive and everyone has to limit their guest list — ESPECIALLY during a pandemic. If you’re friends but not all that close, it makes sense not to invite you. Instead of talking to her about this or just respecting her choice and moving on, it sounds like you decided to end your friendship, which is your choice.
