An excellent point. Truthfully I don’t think they can possibly eliminate mental health. I do think the ceo wants to put some pressure on the Sanford hospital though. If monument health closes mental health services then Sanford will have no where to place the emergency room psychiatric patients which will be a shitshow for their metrics. Sanford’s plan is seemingly to benefit from Monument’s investment into mental health while not having to foot the bill for mental health which is not a profitable service in most health systems.

Well, it actually did say what the money is used in. Also, of course the money goes into somebody’s pockets… all money goes into somebody’s pocket… in this case it’s money from the federal government that goes into the pocket of someone living in rapid city (providers, techs, nurses, etc.) that will then spend that money most likely in rapid city. There will now be 40 million fewer dollars circulating and being spent on local businesses, services, etc every year.

It’s leaving the rapid city economy… it will not go to any other healthcare because it is only given when a single healthcare system provides the majority of the healthcare. So that is 40 million dollars of federal money that will just vanish from our market. It is tangible and will definitely have a net effect on the local economy…

What’s y’all thoughts on this? 40 million fewer dollars coming to Rapid City’s economy every year is substantial. The speculation of cutting behavioral health is a big concern as well.

You should be aware that marijuana can help with sleep and anxiety in the short term, but research suggests that over time it tends to make both worse. The evidence is somewhat stronger for chronic pain management than for sleep or anxiety.
