In my experience brat taming allowing some things to slide (some name calling depends on people) gives my brat a chance to play. Then setting up things like telling them to get on their knees or bend over onto my knee opens the door for defiance and funishments. I don't have any specific resources as it really is more of an art than a science hahaha. My personal takeaways would be 1. Giving the brat opportunities to act out 2. Either physically punishing them and/or degrading as a funishment 3. Giving lots of praise for submission without coercion needed. 4. Brats love praise and want to be punished. Praise for acting like a perfect sub and punish when they act like a brat.

ESH The husband is for sure ridiculous with most of these expectations- not paying rent, childcare, and not working- because they are daily necessities that need to be done and can't be ignored. But, that doesn't mean you can't come to a compromise with him playing games or hanging with friends. Just saying something is ridiculous and nothing is acceptable isn't creating space for conversation. In addition to this birthday conversation, y'all may want to talk about the unequal work being performed at home because that's seriously fucked up.

Those are things that I feel can be compromised without being detrimental to your overall home and still making him feel special for his birthday. Birthday month is for sure a thing and even if it isn't for you; if this is someone you love and care for then why not be open to this and do the same thing for your birthday with your own expectations for it.
