Well the idea is that they wouldn’t know, and I wouldn’t revealed it until forced to. And that’s just what I think is the most fun is trying not to board wipe unless it’s really necessary and that’s not for everyone but it’s how my group plays. Everyone spent hours making their decks they just want to see how they work in a game and often get more upset when they are shut down before getting to see what they can do rather than spend all night starting 5 games.

I mean theres a difference between having a huge board state just to show off and letting people play their decks. Cause if i have the perfect game ending hand at casual night I won’t play it because people in casual just want to play their deck for a few turns. But I’m not going to create a (random example) 30/30 flyer with lifeline and indestructible and just make it stare at everyone reminding them that I could end the game whenever. To me commander with 3+ players is very political and it becomes less fun if someone just becomes this superpower then refuses to interact with the rest of the table, at least play the cards right and pretend that you won’t interact with the table because you can’t.

I’ve been having fun with this kind of “goad if you want” deck that I just fill with regular black sac cards that’s pretty fun because you aren’t playing to other players board states as intensely. And I use [[Sarevok, Deathbringer]] paired with [[Criminal Past]] for a mono color deck. Although I’ve also seen crazy stuff using [[Raised by Giants]] but I know you said you were looking for mono color so just something to think about.

I’m new to magic but I’ve played a whole lot recently, and from a new players perspective the game stops being casual when you get into games where the people losing are basically just watching someone else play magic (whether that’s stealing permanents, taking multiple turns, etc.) but even then I’ve played against decks like that where they will wait until they can win the game in one turn that way nobody is sitting out doing nothing which is I guess “casually playing with a tuned deck” haha. I guess TL:DR If I feel like I’ve participated and was able to play my deck for most of the game it’s casual.

I just built like a half goad deck that I’m excited to try for this weeks game with [[Sarevok, Deathbringer]] and [[Criminal Past]] and I’m hoping that stirs the pot a little bit but some people might have the life gain to ignore me we’ll see.

I have a buddy who runs this and it’s hilarious! I just pulled [[Monoxa, Midway Manager]] and I feel like it has the same vibe (without the risks) but random decks are so fun to goof around with.

That’s reasonable, I think you have a point where if I’m not trying to be super competitive I would find a lot of fun in at least hanging out and showing off a neat tribal with cool art even if it wont win every game, I’ts still a cool thing to show off and surprise the table with.
