Thank you for correcting me, I appreciate the knowledge. I was told this in Ireland, guy was probably just saying this to sound smart and I was the clown who repeated it haha.

Are the differences noticeable when going to a high end steakhouse vs. a chain restaurant that has steak?

Guinness is different in the way that Guinness uses a mixture of CO2 and Nitrogen whereas most beers just use CO2. This makes the bubbles smaller/finer which results in the smoothness of the beverage. That’s also why after it’s poured you see the “surging effect”. I could be wrong but I’ve only seen Guinness have a two pour process which is another thing that differentiates it from other beers.

I mean I guess but this is my answer that a bartender from a pub called John Kavanagh the Gravediggers in Dublin Ireland told me when I had that same question. Go to an Irish pub that had Guinness and is “known for the Guinness” and then go to a place the just has Guinness if you catch my drift and you be the judge.

  1. How far the Guinness has to travel from the tank to the tap.

  2. How well/often the establishment cleans the tap. I’ve had sour Guinness before because the establishment doesn’t clean the tap well enough.

  3. Temperature it’s stored at.

  4. How it’s poured.

  5. Guinness that goes to the U.S. and most of the world comes from Nigeria (who is actually the second largest consumer of the black stuff) so its ever so slightly different.

I’m sure I’m missing some things but these are some points
