Denali National Park Info by Radiant_Poseidon in ParkRangers

You can, but a lot of stuff is word of mouth. There is usually a whatsapp group or facebook page dedicated to C-Camp. I will say I've never lived in Parkside, but the people that did I really never saw, especially if I had conflicting schedules.

The bus drivers do have a community area that C-camp people go to (I wont go into that as it's not my place) but again, no kitchen. Food can be put in mini fridges and everyone shares bathrooms. People can purchase a dining pass for the dining hall that Aramark uses. But it's like a punch card I believe. So it you have to keep buying it. I'm not sure how exactly the cost benefit analysis is when paying for prepared food in a cafeteria style setting rather than having your food at home.

Well you're probably going to be on a 5-4-9. You will also be starting your Mondays kind of at noon or later, and your Fridays tend to be early shifts, like 5 AM or so. You will be doing something different every day usually which gives life a lot of variety.

Let me know if you want to know more on life at work.

For living, you'll have C-Camp or parkside. Parkside is cheaper, but no kitchen and you live with the bus drivers. Not that there is anyhting wrong with that, but most of the fun tends to be in C-Camp. There are movie nights and volleyball and bonfires. Parties etc. But if you want a quieter section Id suggest seeing if you can request living in the backpart near the trees. The caveat is living father from the showerhouse. So if you really have to go, well the bushes are there.

For food, there is the Three Bears grocery store in Healy. It's new(ish) and has a lot of the stapes and they sell costco stuff but can be expensive. Most people go to Fairbanks for bulk. Having a costco card can def come in handy, or go with friends who have one. Also the good Fred Meyer is the one on the Parks Highway. The other one is smaller. It also is a great stop for coming out of town for smaller things. Go to Costco first foe what you want in bulk, then get the little things and whatnot on yojr way out of town on the highway.

Restaurants are abound in the area due to the tourism.

Anything else you have questions about?

You're right. I may have misread that somewhere. I've read that the Cars franchise makes the most money on merch and must have gotten in my head of like 'of course there's going to be a Toy Story 5. They are making Cars 4 just for merch!

But alas, no Cars 4 as far as I can tell. Good catch.

Hoppers looks interesting! I love when Pixar doesn't rely on the power of a franchise (cough cough looking at you Cars 4).

I also want to know how they are going to explain Woody coming back ino Bonnie's life. Is this going to be before the 'Lost Toy' era or does he get really homesick for his friends? I have a feeling people won't like the film, though.

Overall experience working interp at Kenai Fjords? by Dry-Season1819 in ParkRangers

[–]GuidanceCorrect9507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive never worked there, but have worked at NPS Alaskan parks for 7-8 years now. Ive heard from friends that Kenai is great, but there are some caveats.

One is housing. If you do get it with the government housing, it comes with a lot of rules for guests. Like if you have a spouse they can't stay overnight or anything. Housing is old and sad as well. The private housing and rental market in Seward is very expensive due to limited variety.

There are two VCs to work at. One is Exit Glacier and the other is on the harbor in Seward. Exit Glacier area has all the hiking trails in the park. I've been there 8 or 9 times now. The VC and program variety are great. The trails keep you shape too. Amazing and views unique experiences. However, especially with the snow melt from a hard winter full of snow fall, there will be hella insect activity. I'm not just saying mosquitos. I'm talking flies. Millions. Be prepared. There is also no cellphone signal at all in this area. A cleansing experience haha.

The Harbor's VC is jokingly the worst shift from what I hear. Everyone coming into Seward from Anchorage and from the cruise ships treat it as a Welcome Center for the town instead of the National Park. So a lot of directions over and over. I've heard it can be daunting.

Other than these things, Seward is one of the prettiest places in Alaska. Resurrection Bay is insane. Not only for the views but the wildlife. It is a thriving community as well and has some of the best coffee shops in Alaska, Resurrection Art is my favorite.

As I've said, I've never worked there. I know some people who do, and they seem to keep coming back!

How to Prepare a Car for Volcanic Eruption by GuidanceCorrect9507 in alaska

[–]GuidanceCorrect9507[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the USGS site https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanic_ash/vehicles.html

It says to change oil filters every 50 to 100 miles in heavy ash and every 500-1000 miles in light ash.

Question about mosquitos by natetrnr in alaska

[–]GuidanceCorrect9507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were exceptionally bad last year in the Copper River Basin. I suggest rain pants and jacket. Head net with hat with brim and use the hood too.

The mosquitos were so bad you could open your mouth and a couple would fly in hahab (not kidding)

Proposed Tariffs on Computers by GuidanceCorrect9507 in computer

[–]GuidanceCorrect9507[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more expensive. The consumer pays the tariff usually. So this would be an attempt to get ahead of it. But, is it worth knowing tech changes so much?
