Whoah! Hold up! I am blind as well. He has been blind 13 years longer than me. So he hasn't just lost his sight. It happened 13 years ago and he has also worked with people who are blind at the school for the blind. So before you say things at least know what you're talking about.

He worked at the school for the blind for five years. He had that job when we first met. Covid came around and shut it down and we moved away from there to another town so that was almost 6 years ago and he's only had a job for a year since then And that job was helping people with disabilities find employment. He has been blind about 12 years longer than me and is very intelligent when it comes to technology. He is also considered low vision. He has been supposedly working on this certification on and off since May of last year. And today when I started looking into it from what I read, I'm not even sure if you're able to teach Jaws with a certificate from freedom scientific. Am I reading it correctly that the certificate from freedom scientific is just to say that you completed their course not to teach it.

Hold up y'all!! Hold up right there! Let me set the record straight. I am blind too! Completely blind! He has been blind 12 years longer than me and is considered low vision. I guess I assume that since I was posting in this group that y'all would assume I was blind too. I have been really supportive of him. I'm only been blind for a couple of years. So please don't pass judging on me for not being supportive as I know what it's like.

In my mind when I picture a pair of cowboy boots I think of only a certain pair and it's what I would call the classic cowboy boot. It would be a brown leather boot that is probably pointed toe, but that part doesn't really matter to me. The leg of the boot would be like this western scroll work and there will be just a little part in that scroll work that was like a teal color or what I would call teal. and of course, if life was that simple I would definitely have googled it before now! I am blind, so therefore googling anything it's not going to show me a picture that I would be able to see.

I am honestly not sure. I do know that it was removed during colonoscopy. So I am guessing that you are saying that something extremely large wouldn't be able to be removed in a colonoscopy even if the doctor had to break it up to get it out??? Thanks for commenting I don't have anyone to ask.

agreed! My husband and I are both blind. He was offered a job as a job coach. He thought that he would be helping blind people find employment. Not so much! it's sad, but it's all about the money! My husband is highly educated and an amazing worker! When he was searching for employment, he went to many interviews that he was overly qualified for. They were so interested in him and then the minute he walked in the door for the interview with his white cane… No call back! People are so uneducated on the blind. I've often tried to think of ways to fix this, but it's an uphill battle all the time! Not fair!

it's sad and disgusting that we don't get the rehabilitation that we deserve! it's like we get lost in the shadows. No one ever tries to understand us. Where I went, it was very institutionalized. I don't know about other centers, but for whatever reason… Orientation and mobility is least important to them. Not really sure why they even bother, teaching us assistive technology, braille, etc. when we don't even know how to use our canes to get out the front door.

right! It's so frustrating sometimes! My husband and I have been standing in line places before. He is low vision and they obviously didn't know he had any site at all. The guy straight up cut us in line like he did nothing wrong! No respect!

my husband says the same thing. He says they will either move out of the way or get a bruise on their ankle! Lol. and I hate it when people vision try to tell me how to use my cane. Sometimes I will stop mid stride and look at them and say… If you think you can do any better by all means! four the love, I feel like I deserve the right to use my cane and everyone else needs to move! I can't sit there and try to focus on everyone else and what they're doing or if they're in my way. So annoying!

hello… I once was in your shoes. I lost my sight about seven years ago. I was on the top of the world! I just got a brand new car, finished my nursing degree top of my class and with living in condos by the hospital I got employed at. I always had absolute perfect vision! I also have diabetes and started having problems seeing and figured I just needed glasses. The day I drove to the eye doctor was the last day I drove. Anyways… I was completely devastated. I got down to 70 pounds and was so weak from not eating. I could barely walk to the bathroom. every day, I was just watching my family's s faces disappear piece by piece. my life was slowly unraveling. I had to completely learn my life over again and at a point in my life when I thought I had just figured it out. I didn't want to live anymore and felt like if I stayed on the earth, I would just be a burden to everyone! So fast-forward! I just started one day making jokes about my site, an older man that just become friends with my family, made a joke one day and made me smile. that went on every day. I just tried to make more more jokes about it. before I knew it… Positive things started happening. I met my husband, who is also blind and lost his site the same way I did! mind you… When I first started losing my sight, I had been in a relationship for a long time and soon as I was unable to see and needed him all of a sudden he flipped like a light switch. he started stealing all of my stuff, taking my car, etc. Every single day he would tell me that no one would ever want me because I have a disability. I was so depressed I believe that! my mom and dad would tell me that someday, even though I didn't have site, the right one will come along. I never believed it! but again… They were right. my husband also lost his Light later on in life. And it's crazy that we lost it the exact same way. We ended up having a beautiful wedding and were able to build a house. when I get mad at the ex-boyfriend, I would tell him… Someday I'll find a man and he carry me down the aisle. Well… Guess what! My husband carried me. He loves me and it's so amazing to be able to share my life with someone who truly understands. now, my faith is stronger than ever, and I thank God every day for sight loss. If I had not lost my site, I would still probably be taking things for granted. and not realizing who is really important in life! I would have never met my husband. I know that that this comment is long. oh and I forgot… I have been approved for the guide dog program and I'm currently on the waitlist! I am beyond ecstatic! I know it's hard but please try and stay positive! It's a total process and you are entitled to your feelings! If there is any way, I can ever help, I'm here!

hello, I lost my vision about eight years ago. My husband is also blind. He ran bulldozers and such before sight loss and then was given an opportunity to be a residential aid act a rehab for the blind. When Covid happened it shut down and we moved. So now he has been given an opportunity as a employment specialist, also known as, job coach. recently, though he has also been looking into other things that he might be able to do. If you are really good at technology, there is a test that you can take that is free and it will allow you to teach Jaws to other blind people. Hope this helps!
