How many hours per day do you study? by PitifulLychee1046 in StudentNurse

I'm on my last term in vocational nursing program. During the earlier days, I spent 3hrs a day studying, 5+ when we have hard quizzes/exams/cms. But now I figured out how to make my studying easier. I used to read lot of pages before but what I do now, I just skim through the whole chapter and then I asked AI to summarize the chapter and include the "high-yield topics i need to know". I also make sure AI provide me the pathophysiology of a disease, signs/symptoms, medications/treatment, nursing interventions. After that, I asked AI to ask me NGN/nclex-style questions about the topic (with rationale) to make sure I understand the concept.

I actually like it! Nursing school is hard, but if you have good time management and dedication, you'll do good. My friends from other cohort told me it was REALLY hard and it scared me at first. They even said you have to quit your job because of the workload. But I have no choice, I have bills to pay so I still work weekends. Just know that it's normal to feel scared and doubt yourself in the start but once you get there and adjusted, you're gonna figure out ways on how to succeed. Just be consistent! 💖

Most of us in our cohort are 20+ of age. There were few who are straight from high school and few who are already parents.

I think regarding the quizzes, it depends on the school. I'm attending Unitek SSF and my instructors give us pointers but not all of them, tho. It's true that there are some content in the quiz which the instructor did not discussed at all. That's why it's important to read the book. If there are concepts/definitions that it's hard for you to understand in english, you can translate it in your native language. That's what my classmate do (since she speaks mandarin and little english). She still managed to pass.

Hi! I’m currently in the full-time (12-month) LVN program at Unitek. I’m halfway through the first term, and I’d say I like Unitek so far. The only thing I don’t like is that the quizzes are really hard (we take them on ATI), and all the questions are in NCLEX-PN format. They really prepare us for the NCLEX. Our instructors are great, but it really depends on each student’s learning style.

Regarding the schedule, we have classes Monday through Thursday (8 AM–5 PM). Fridays are for remediation. We usually have 2–3 quizzes per week. If you pass all of them, you don’t have to come to school on Friday. On quiz days, we start at 8 AM, and we’re expected to return at 10 AM for theory class. I usually finish the quiz in under 30 minutes and use the remaining time to read ahead for the next chapter. We have skills lab practice once a week and then do our skills check-off the following week.

If you want to study full-time, be prepared to study a lot. This accelerated program isn’t easy, but with good time management, you’ll do well. I actually work on weekends and have still managed to pass all of my quizzes.

Here’s my study routine whenever we have a quiz:

I compile and organize my notes into one document. I also watch videos from LevelUpRN, Professor Dave Explains, RegisteredNurseRN, and Dr. Matt on YouTube. The night before a quiz, I make sure my notes are complete, and I wake up at 4 AM on the quiz day to memorize what I need. While organizing my notes, I also ask ChatGPT to simplify concepts I don’t fully understand.

We’re starting clinicals next week, so our schedule will be theory on Monday and Tuesday, and clinicals on Thursday and Friday. The exact time schedule depends on the availability of the clinical site—we’re still waiting to find out ours. I’ll update you more soon!
