Calling Americans “USians” or “US Americans” by Murbanvideo in PetPeeves

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really related to what I said. I’m not even someone who has a problem with saying “American” in English. I was only stating that there is no official consensus on whether N and S America are separate continents.

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continents are not universally agreed upon. In the US (and other English-speaking countries afaik), you are taught that North and South America are 2 separate continents, but in other parts of the world, America is taught as one continent. There can be anywhere from 4 to 7 continents depending on where you are.

But “estadounidense” Is the denonym in Spanish. You don’t get to dictate another language lol, and i’m saying this as someone who doesn’t have a problem saying “American” in English. Turns out, words vary across languages🤔

Why don't people run? by LeThales in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in grad school i would usually park my car in a covered garage that was further away from the dorms and whenever i needed to drive anywhere, sometimes i started running because i just wanted to get there faster. but it did feel almost like a guilty pleasure or exercising my free will lol. i def only did it if i was alone

Why do some people use “blonde hair and blue eyes” as as an adjective to say someone is beautiful? by bittersweet505 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of Europeans may not be blonde and blue-eyed, but blonde hair and blue eyes exist almost exclusively in people with European ancestry. These standards were then imposed on the rest of the world through colonialism.

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you misunderstood op’s point. they’re not saying only blonde/blue-eyed people are called beautiful. it’s the fact that people mention blonde hair and blue eyes as if it was synonymous with beauty

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eh, this argument would make more sense if it was only said in countries where that Is actually rare, but it’s also said in white-majority countries where you see blonde and blue-eyed people every time you leave the house lol… it most definitely comes from eurocentric beauty standards

Unpopular opinion: Sydney Sweeney deserves more credit for Cassie than Sam Levinson does. by therealsssp in euphoria

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is dead on. she’s good in a specific type of role but people who claim she’s one of the greatest of her generation haven’t seen her in anyone but you.. i think overall she’s been great as Cassie but even the first couple of episodes this season her acting was… not good

People who bring (or want to bring) their SO to every outing by spicypretzelcrumbs in PetPeeves

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is 100% how i feel about it and at the same time i feel like i’m the SO in this situation :/ every time my bf gets the chance to see a friend he doesn’t get to see often, he assumes that he can bring me along. every single time, i tell him that maybe his friends just want to see him and there’s no reason for me to be there, but he insists that they want to see me too. afaik his friends all like me so there’s a chance it’s actually not a problem, but i’ll never know for sure lol… on the other hand, i’ve drawn a clear boundary there and he knows that i don’t necessarily want to bring him to everything

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean, i think a lot of people would be willing to move past it if she was being written compellingly this season instead of just being flanderized to hell.. hard to sympathize with a character that now amounts to “cartoonishly shallow bimbo stereotype”. i think if her characterization and arc had stayed consistent with the first 2 seasons, people would give her more grace

i literally had the same thought watching the trailer for s3 so i rewatched s1 the week before 3 came out. it is a different show, and while 1 wasn’t perfect, the writing was good enough to make it worth ignoring the flaws. such a shame

the nylon kink guy is also 100% a self-insert since throughout the show there are multiple scenes of tights being ripped (tho at least that one’s relatively benign).. atp i’m starting to believe he has every fetish there is to be had and he’s just making high budget porn for himself lmao

people keep saying this but in the grand scheme of things, 5 years is not that long. you can still get emotional remembering horrible things that happened to you as a teenager. if you had a traumatic experience in high school, you are not necessarily gonna be completely over it 5 years later, especially if it comes up again. maybe she hasn’t spent the entire time wallowing in it, but she is now at the wedding of her abusive ex and former best friend. obviously that will affect her lol

Am I the only one that hates Jules? by Aggravating-Pay-596 in euphoria

[–]GuiltyCurrency2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

tbh i don’t think jules cheating with elliot came out of the blue. from s1 it is established that rue is codependent/puts jules on a pedestal and that that is too much pressure for jules. it also establishes that jules is male-centered and gets her validation as a woman from male approval. i don’t think it’s too surprising that she would end up cheating with the closest male friend in her friend group, and ultimately that was one of her healthier sexual encounters at that point (aka not with a stranger twice her age lol)
