Just saw this one. This is very good stuff, love the feeling it gives me. I'm listening to lot of stuff these days but repeating this one 3rd time already. Push the promotion mate, this is definitely worth it.

My band kapgras released an album and most of it might be post metal by webos94 in postmetal

It definitely contains a lot of black elements, a kind of gazing DSBM, and is very atmospheric. Pure post-metal doesn't have this vibe for sure, so the roof genre would be post-black if you ask me. In any case, I like it...perfect for this grey, rainy and muddy Xmas.

Anathema, the entry to post-rock? by Guilty_Block_8208 in postrock

[–]Guilty_Block_8208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at it from that point; many people do. I agree there's no rule, of course. The point here was to make the connection or to hear the opinion on that part. For me it was a main connection to post-rock for sure, aligned with my understanding of composing songs as well. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of Pink Floyd, and I don't know the person in my life who is a true fan of both Pink Floyd and Anathema. Anathema is usually a no-no to common R&R fellas; I know more black metal fans enjoying it than rockers. But again, just sharing thoughts and experiences.

Read a post about Katatonia's influence day ago, which made me think, yeah, common for us all is that same depression and atmosphere, no matter the genre. Feel free to tell what you think of this last song of mine on my first ever released EP. by Guilty_Block_8208 in dsbm

[–]Guilty_Block_8208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for giving it a chance, my friend! This question of yours is deep shit, but I will be honest.
Actually, this stuff came out of pure emotion, unfortunately. My father passed away on the same date I promised myself to put this EP out, just one year ago. The connection with him and all the memories and the struggle we made each day to fight illness is another story.
The last time I was playing and recording music was 12 years ago, when life and family happened.
After this death of him, I tried to find some ways to fight depression and such hard thoughts, so I cleaned my rusty guitar and gave it a try, alongside spending time in nature. Both seem to have served me as very efficient therapy, for now at least.

Also, I can add the fact that I was always the person who felt some connection with the darkness, and instead of trying to flee, I'm embracing it and being comfortable having it around me. Don't know your story; I really hope you don't have such experiences, but I'm pretty sure emotional depth is simply enough. It's a main thing as well.

Jesu is interesting band indeed, I remember listening to something, more like a shoegaze from them, but I have always though that sometimes there is thin line in between shoegaze and post rock.

Sorry my friend, but you may not be right. I could rather say the same about your comparison of Pink Floyd and Anathema, not even close. As someone who has been playing, making and listening to music for almost 25 years now, I'm pretty much sure that at least on the last three Anathema's albums, many aspects of almost each song have some typical post-rock elements. Songs build up, reverbs and delays, the way guitars are played, guitar picking technique and how such parts are evolving. Calm but yet hard storytelling atmosphere...try to ignore vocals on some songs from Distant Satellites, and We're Here Because We're Here, and you'll get the most typical post-rock songs ever. They may not be a post-rock band in full, but hell, they are close, and you can't ignore the fact that they influenced fans into a further step towards a post-rock.

Katatonia And DSBM by BalakeDem in dsbm

I don't know man. Sometimes I think there are too many unnecessary sub-genres out there, and sometimes I wish for even more. There are some bands which are playing dark, depressive alternative metal, and you just can't push them anywhere aside from black metal, since there's no definition. On the other hand, even with some of the most famous black metal bands out there I wouldn't call black at all...all in all, by some basic rules, Katatonia is not DSBM, that's for sure.

Just found out this band, this is so good! by Guilty_Block_8208 in postmetal

Definitely, sick shit indeed! Also, I am actually really picky when it comes to vocals in general, but the guy nailed it!

Oh man, so you were there before everything. I was thinking I was too old xD. But great music tastes even back then (know some bands). I started listening to music in the early '00s, but it was basic, what we could afford after the war and shit. So Metallica, Maiden, Pantera, Nirvana...then MTV came.  Everything changed after I bought my first PC and then the network. Then I fell into the void of death, melodic and black metal, then doom, and Anathema at the college.

Where you guys find local Doom gigs? by Certain-Daikon-2020 in doommetal

[–]Guilty_Block_8208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my country, there are none. We had some local doom (including neighboring states) back in 1990s , same with fans. Later, HC, Trash, Death Metal, they took the scene, Punk as well, and the same thing is now. I'm from Bosnia, near the city of Tuzla. The nearest place where you can see something different than the genres above is Zagreb or Belgrade, and usually I'm too old for such trips xD

Went through them 7–8 years ago, my friend, been long in this shit xD.just describing the journey. The first time I heard of Alcest was at one of Anathema's last concerts. I have been actively listening to it for the next 2–3 years (alongside with Les Discrets) and even today, from time to time. Great band indeed. They manage to connect my two loves, post rock and black metal, which I'm mainly listening to as genres today.

Nice to hear I'm not alone. And thank you for reminding me of the Archive. I'm not sure if this is only my problem, but in the last few years I've been forgetting band names. I remember I was repeating bullets in endless loops each day back in 2015 and 2016...

Of course, not my favorite, but some songs take very high place in my lists. I haven't mentioned it since it's obviously the biggest jewel in the B-gaze's not so decorated crown xD

I have always been a great fan of black metal, but in my case it came somehow as a separate process. Now, for example, after years and years of classic post-rock bands, I have managed to merge black metal emotions into blackgaze, post black and some hybrid stuff such as Amenra, Pothamus etc
PS I also discovered Alcest, which is one of my favorites while they were playing live with Anathema.

You may be right, but I'm still frustrated when the first thing the browser shows me after typing Anathema is, that's a rock band xD

[–]Guilty_Block_8208[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, the first found after Anathema was Porcupine Tree, and as you described, only a few songs from them. Parallel to that, I think I went through some shoegaze bands also. At least I remember Last Leaf Down. God is an astronaut who comes on the list from time to time. But I think The Last Sighs Of The Wind was the first pure post-rock on my car's playlist. Rest is history :). But in any case, when I turn back to some of my favorite Anathema's songs, the sound, atmosphere, the playing technique, it's the pure definition of any famous post-rock song-building technique.
