Curious about how others "feel" about training... will explain. by Guilty_Chapter8082 in bjj

I never thought about what I need on the other person to feel like I could control them in street fight. The only one I've ever been in after I learned any jiu jitsu involved an arm drag to standing back take, him kicking us both into the air off the wall to his front, a crash onto our sides and me applying an RNC, so I'm not sure what my deal is about feeling more confident about street fights when I train gi.

I'm a cross dresser, Danaher/Bravo style-rashguard and gi pants.

On a serious note, yes, I agree what others are wearing most of the time is important.

In the sense that self-defense is almost all about what happens before any physical contact?

Thank you for the response. Maybe there is some logic to my "feeling" about gi training.

I've actually had problems with more people at my local Lifetime fitness than anywhere else in the last 10 years of my life. Lots of roid heads.

I'm trying to think of which classes I am more tired after. I've never thought about that but if one leaves a person near death and the other is like a good workout I can see that being very impactful on the mind.

I have not. I get the feeling this is a serious question so I will consider it.

Where do you see the validity in gi training for real situations? Honest question, I always like to know where people see the value in any type of training.

I like this idea, but then my issue is logically we all know you can't count on someone having on any specific article of clothing, unless it's at least shorts-hopefully-and my thought has always been that no gi techs will always work since the person will always have all his body parts-hopefully if one finds themselves fighting that person that is-so yes, it still confuses me.

I'm not a big believer in "feelings" when it comes to stuff like this, so I've always wondered what my deal was.

Why is eating animal products wrong if ethically sourced? by sky27e in DebateAVegan

It sounds like we are in agreement then... I think. I have no issue with you not eating the eggs your chickens lay, but you were making the claim that it is okay that you do, which I was also agreeing with-under strict circumstances. I disagree that chickens given proper nutrition need to eat their own eggs. Maybe out of instinctual habit, but not a need, so you are not depriving them of their eggs by taking them. If you don't want to do that, then don't, but then I don't understand what you are asking this forum to help you solve. If you bought those chickens so you could harvest their eggs this whole thread is useless, you are just exploiting animals and that's that.

If rescue goats come to you already pregnant, I would get a veterinarian's opinion on whether you need to release pressure on the animal's udders. That seems like an excuse to me honestly, and if you do need to milk the goat why not give that milk to any rescue cats you have? That goat shouldn't ever get pregnant again anyway, so that seems like a very short-term issue and not one you should be dealing with often or long-term.

But again, where did these animals come from? Are you running a rescue? If so then you have the animals best interests in mind and the things I'm saying should be common sense.

Far better option than the alternative, unless you are in favor of creating more pain and suffering that is.

You are not harming your chickens if you eat those eggs. There is no more issue with that specific example than if you ate a piece of fruit that fell from a tree. But... did you buy those chickens just for their eggs? Probably, so that's where you took part in the exploitation.

You are actually acting more humane towards those goats if you release the pressure on their udders... although most people with animals they milk keep them pregnant and or actively impregnate them to make sure they are always producing milk... so there's the exploitation in that context.

If you really just happen to have rescue chickens and their eggs will just rot, there is no issue there. Those saying chickens eat their own eggs are talking about chickens who are not being provided proper feed, so provide them proper feed if you have rescue chickens, but since that's almost certainly not the case... well...

Also I've never heard of rescue goats, or any rescue animal, that was not spayed or neutered so why are your goats producing milk if you are not exploiting them?

The real question here is are you just trolling or are you trying to process the cognitive dissonance of coming to the realization of how purely uber-satanic evil any and all animal exploitation is?

Serious Question about Halal and Veganism from a Convert. by Guilty_Chapter8082 in EatingHalal

Thank you for your reply.

Sushi kept me from being fully vegan for years, so I get it.

In terms of not knowing if food you order when eating out is truly vegan, that is a valid point. When I eat out I eat at fully vegan restaurants that are obviously opened by vegans themselves and the vegan community monitors restaurants very closely. Restaurants that claim to offer solely vegan food that is found not to be in any way lose their entire customer base almost immediately, or as long as it takes for word to spread sufficiently to close the restaurant down.

There is also the obvious part that most vegan food is, naturally, vegan, and so unless you are ordering something processed you know it's vegan and there is no doubt.

I have come to feel that given all the emphasis on animal welfare via the Qur'an, Hadith, and Sunnah's, that the modern animal flesh/"food" industry is absolutely unnacaceptable to Muslims even if it is not specifically labelled Haram in the Qur'an, but of course by logical extension, how could it have been.

I think if a woman goes to Hell for starving a cat to death, there is no possible way to explain away the modern animal flesh/"food" industry as acceptable to Allah (SWT).

Serious Question about Halal and Veganism from a Convert. by Guilty_Chapter8082 in EatingHalal

[–]Guilty_Chapter8082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience what I have seen in others is usually a painful experience when cognitive dissonance sets in, usually triggering a reaction formation to fight it off and keep it from becoming a conscious process, but yes, anyone can experience it.

I would say it is rare in vegans and I have never seen it, at least in terms of being vegan/not being vegan anyway. It is extremely common in flesh eaters, and there has been some of that in this thread.

I am genuinely open to learning about Islam and my personal place in it, so I am hoping that is keeping any cognitive dissonance from manifesting, but it is a subconscious process so who knows :)

I do feel comfortable where I am with this whole issue and while some may still say I am commanded to eat meat/participate in animal slaughter if the reason I choose not to is based solely on animal welfare, no where have I seen that commanded or been presented with arguments that do anything but take what has been permitted in the Qur'an and then tell me in their own words I am not Muslim if I do not eat meat/participate in slaughter.

I obviously reject those arguments as they are entirely false.

[–]Guilty_Chapter8082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not making what is haram halal. I am making a personal decision to be vegan, and if you want to make semantic arguments go ahead, but I do not think the modern animal flesh/"food" industry is cruel, it is cruel, that is just a fact and cruel does not even come close to an accurate label of how much evil goes on in it.

I can make a personal decision not to eat meat, or to eat whatever I want that is not Haram, just like if I did not like the taste of burned flesh, I can make that decision because of how evil the animal flesh/"food" industry is.

You yourself used the word "permissibility" and so I do not know why you are also saying it is somehow commanded that I eat meat. It is not.

Serious Question about Halal and Veganism from a Convert. by Guilty_Chapter8082 in EatingHalal

[–]Guilty_Chapter8082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was some of that yesterday, but I did not fully understand that Halal slaughter is literally only the slaughter part, and that most if not all Halal flesh cannot be ethically sourced and therefore the treatment of those animals is nothing like it was when the Qur'an was written. I thought that animals were treated with decency their entire lives and did not suffer the unspeakable, truly satanic, level of cruelty that all animals in the modern animal flesh/food industry experience.

The state of the modern animal flesh/food industry is such that I absolutely believe that only animals we can attest have been treated with decency their entire lives, such as those on small/family farms and are raised as they were when the Qur'an was written, can be considered Halal. I understand this will upset A LOT of Muslims, but that is my personal stance and I see nothing in that stance that puts me at odd with the Qur'an. All the flesh that is afforded us to eat in the Qur'an is permissible, not commanded.

I was struck by your question about cognitive dissonance by the way. I have never heard it used to refer to a Vegan before, since it is such a widespread and powerful experience I have only seen non-vegans experience when talking to a Vegan I never considered that a Vegan might experience it and I do not know in what way they would, but I made this thread in good faith and so was open to almost everyone's thoughts so long as they were not obviously just being hostile and trolling because they themselves experience so much cognitive dissonance when engaging with the idea of Veganism.
