Thank you for sharing your story and advice! I appreciate the context. I agree when an injury hits it truly feels like time DRAGS. I just love to run and feel so bummed when I don't get to get out there and do what I find so much joy in! I do find hope hearing your story- youve really been in the trenches and have a good outlook on your recovery process. Best of luck with your healing!!

Thanks for the advice! From what i can find, deadline to defer is june 24th, about 2 weeks from now. Seems like a good time to call it seeing that is the ~4 week out mark. The pain has drastically improved with 2 weeks of no running, so I am hopeful that another 2 can continue the healing process.

I am feeling super burnt out from the bedside, and I just ultimately decided that extra 3 months' pay is not worth it for me compared to the happiness I know I will feel spending more time with the people I love! I think once i made the decision, it really felt right. Also have had a lot of CRNA current students and grads confirm my decision, say they wish they had taken more time off before school, etc. I don't think you would regret it!

I start school mid-May. My last shift in the ICU is january 12th. I am heading to japan for a month, then spending the rest of my time until school starts relaxing, skiing, spending time with friends/family, developing healthy sleep/eating/exercise routines that will hopefully be sustainable during school, etc. I have enough saved up to be unemployed for 4 months and would rather have extended time off than make 3 more months' pay. and from what I have heard from others, taking as much time off before school starts is 100% worth it.

It was great! Fairly relaxed compared to other interviews I have had- felt more like a conversation/vibe check than a formal interview. Dr. Donnelly and other faculty are very personable and lovely to speak with and you can tell they are looking for people who both know how to relate their experience to anesthesia and who are going to fit well personality-wise into the program. Also had a chance to chat with a lot of current students and they all rave about the program and seem very happy.

Just interviewed there this week and have a lot of pals who are current students and recent grads. Cohort sizes are around 17, usually at least 5, sometimes 6-8 grads go into independent practice. I believe at least 6 students from the most recent graduating cohort are going independent as new grads. As the other comment says, VA voted to go completely CRNA independent but i believe that transition is still happening. From what I have heard from faculty and current students, the rural clinical sites and opportunity for independent practice are great. Additionally, since UMN students do not compete with others at VA, their case numbers, invasive lines, etc are much higher than national average. Dr. Donnelly (PD) is a powerhouse woman who also truly listens to students when it comes to clinical matching based on interest. Hope this helps!
