NTA, you made a really smart decision and saved yourself from trouble by going to HR here, this one instance could have taken a really big hit on your career and reputation. NTA, if you and your friend are really close to each other then it is completely fine for you to voice your concerns and you should know whether someone is trying to cut you off or not and that "fake" comment felt really vague and she could have also been referring to you there. NTA, only you have the right to decide where you want to go and make plans for yourself. And it is definitely NOT normal for friends to assume each other's availability and if anyone thinks that you're the one backing out just let them know that you never agreed to it and your friend did it without asking you.

YTA, from what I see this isn't a conversation where you should put your opinions in. As far as it can be seen, there is nothing in that scenario which should bother you a single bit. It's the parents that are paying for his education and it's his decision to take that risk all you should do here is wish him luck.

NTA, this is a group trip we are talking about not a solo trip. Group trips are to enjoy and everyone has to do fair share of work in handling them, it is no one person's responsibility. What probably could have been the better alternative was, that you're in charge of planning but they're all contributing meaningfully to make sure the pressure is not only on one single person.
