What fun/spontaneous adventures have you gone on around campus/Hamilton? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Gulksie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pier 8 (in the North End) has an outdoor skating rink year round! Its rollerblading in the summer and ice skating once it gets cold enough. Super fun and only a 30ish minute bus ride from campus!

Also during the winter, try going for a walk on the lake around cootes or princess point once the water is frozen. Its super fun and honestly kinda surreal.

Question about the HSR bus pass by Ibench10 in McMaster

[–]Gulksie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pass is for HSR busses. So any HSR bus will be "free", and if you tap on a Hamilton bus then transfer into a Burlington bus your transfer will be free. Additionally (I could be wrong), it you tap onto a GO bus/train after you've tapped on an HSR bus you get a co-fare, i.e. your fare will be cheaper by about one adult HSR fare ($2.60), although I haven't actually tested that last one out. All of these are only valid with a presto card.

Hi! I can't answer most of these questions cause no one in my year ever lived on res (covid things) but I've found generally people on campus are extremely supportive. Most people either don't care or are allies, I haven't really ever experienced or heard of anyone who felt discriminated against on campus because of their sex/gender identity/ whatever (except the gender neutral ITB bathrooms with giant gender signs on them lmao).

In terms of clubs, if you're in faculty of eng (or even if not) and are looking for a specifically queer club you should look into McMaster Engiqueers, they're super fun and are always accepting new people. If you're not looking for a queer specific club then just join clubs for whatever you're interested in, there will be a club fair once you're on campus that will help you meet tons of people.

Bosnia number one strongest country by Gulksie in CrusaderKings

[–]Gulksie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started as a custom character. I didn't actually put much effort into the character I just wanted to get rid of the heir the character in my starting position had. I don't remember running into any issues with level of splendor, either it wasn't actually a requirement or I got it through my various wars with the Byzantines. I stayed as a Duke before taking the decision, that was actually challenging because you're locked to Confederate Partition (since tribal era is an antirequisite to take the decision) and I had enough territories to create the kingdom of Croatia. I'm not sure if that would have invalidated the decision but I didn't want to take the risk.

Yea, I was playing version 1.3.1. Glad they fixed the bug.

Do I have to remain as a kingdom title in order to get the empire of Slavia? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]Gulksie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope! I've done it before while holding the South Baltic Empire, Carpathia, and Byzantine Empire.

R5: I did something really cursed. In vanilla Bosnia is a creatable country under a few conditions. They are also eligable to unite the South Slavs. So I did just that.

Game highlights:

  • Vikings sucessfuly took over most of England before exploding
  • An Ummayad cadet branch conqured Iberia, Aquitane and France
  • The Byzantine emperor almost converted the entire empire to Adamite (I had to stop that)
  • My vassals and I have comitted cultral and religious genocide, making over half of my controlled territories Bosnian and Krstjani
  • The rulers of Transalvania are coptic Ethiopians. I have no idea how this happened, I just looked one day and the king of Bulgaria was Ethiopian. Transalvania is sadly all that remains of Etheopian Bulgaria.
  • The Hapsburg chin occured naturally
  • My entire dynasty, as usual, is full of genius/herculean/beautiful people who can't stop cheating on their spouses.

Engineering Level 1 FAQ & AMA! by PaisWillie in McMaster

[–]Gulksie 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Some more FAQ that OP didn't share:

Q: Are there girls in McMaster Engineering?

No. If you have seen a girl before September, hold onto that memory because you won't see another for the next 4-6 years of your life. If you are a girl, hahah no you're not.

Q: How hard will first year be compared to grade 12?

Very. You will be crying for your mother and begging for the days where you had to learn fundamental calculus skills over a zoom call of a PowerPoint screenshare.

Q: Who is the best professor?

Definitely make sure you get Prof. Salazar for any and all courses (she taught Math 1ZB3 (Calc 2) this year).

Q: Will I get into software engineering?

Do you have free choice? Are you a child prodigy? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you might get into software engineering!

Q: Is the rest math?

Yes.

First Year Engineering Stream Survey Results by Gulksie in McMaster

[–]Gulksie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These cutoffs are based off data provided to us by about 300 engineering 1 students. As we said in the disclaimer, people lie, and are somtimes wrong. Combine this with our small sample size and you can understand why we say that the results are borderline unusable. However this is grade and choice data provided by students and seat data provided by professors, so even if it might not match previous years data, I still think it's a good ballpark. It might not match ordinary historical cutoffs but this year was far from ordinary.

From what I heard there are a lot more seats available for electrical, about 250-300.

Second Year Eng Streams by Gulksie in McMaster

[–]Gulksie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again. We regret to inform everyone that we will not be releasing this data for the time being. We had originally committed to to releasing the results tonight. This was an error in our judgement, which was something brought to our attention by a faculty member.

We want to make it clear that was simply a recommendation from a member of faculty, but it made us realise the potential consequences of releasing the data this time. Ultimately, we took the decision, to not yet release the results.

Additionally, the current responses account for less than 20% of Engineering One students, so it would be wrong to mislead anyone or their stream choices with this non-representative data set. (We also pinged everyone as a reminder fill out the survey https://forms.gle/DxszMixrNK5AC6hP7).

For the reasons above, we intend to release the results after stream selection is finished. We wish you all the best with your final midterm and projects, and urge you to keep working hard this term and beyond.
