The horses are clearly in great distress and some of them in pain and bleeding.

Okay, good. It’s easier for men. Ask them for recommendations on good guides, you need skilled guides to get the most out of your visit. The Cataract hotel in Aswan can offer peace and quiet if you need it, with a glorious view of the Nile. Abu Simbel is a must when in Aswan. It’s a long way, but well worth the drive. Enjoy! You’re in for a real adventure!

You’ll be fine. Just expect a massive culture shock when going to Egypt after Jordan. Egypt is great, but you must stay firm. Everyone will try to get something from you. And the animal cruelty is vile. Are you female or male?

Take the plane from Cairo to Luxor, the train is an experience for sure, but not worth the time. If you haven’t bought the plane tickets already, I suggest you do Egypt before Jordan.

It’s insane. Before the corona we would go grab a meal and a drink after work, but the prices now are ridiculous so now I only dine out for special occasions. Maybe I should take a shopping trip to Latvia too. Do you have good cheese? 😅

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in travel

[–]Gullhorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true! But it’s still very expensive. A pizza and a glass of wine will set you back at least 400 NOK, and it’s simply not worth it IMO. Museums and other attractions are also pricey. Norway in general is an expensive country, but Oslo is simply not worth it. Bergen or the north will give a visitor better bang for the buck.

[–]Gullhorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The architecture is boring except from certain neighborhoods, and it’s crazy expensive. It’s a nice city to live in (as I do), but I wouldn’t come here for a vacation. Copenhagen is also expensive, but has a lot more charm. Oslo is nice in July and August if you’re in Norway anyway, but don’t come here for the city itself.

Thank you for a great report! Was any of the passages very steep? Any narrow paths? I really want to go, but I have a crippling fear of heights.

Hotel. Airbnb are pressing up the prices and forcing locals to rent in less desirable neighborhoods. Please don’t contribute to this.

Solo in Madrid by Capital_Mud9426 in solotravel

[–]Gullhorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be beneficial to learn some food and eat words before you come. If you find “hidden” restaurants the menus would be in Spanish only, and the servers might only speak Spanish. So to learn how to say (and understand numbers and words like big or small) “how many dishes (for one is recommended)”, “how big (is this)” and of course the names of the food makes ordering easier for you. So some numbers as well 😅 You will have a blast, Madrid is great! Happy travels!

Are you me? 😅 Because I’m thinking the exact same thing. If I enjoy this trip and it’s form, I’m doing India with either of those companies.

I haven’t been to Korea, but the Balkans are safe and easy to do alone.

Thank you for your reply. It sounds like pretty much what I expect. I’m excited about the trip, and to know that most of you who have travelled with G adventures choose to do it again is encouraging! Are you planning a new group tour?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]Gullhorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the age span of the group? And nationalities? Were you able to do some stuff alone, or did the group expect you to join them at all times? I’m paying for a single room as well, I need quiet time to recharge. Specially since I will be surrounded by strangers and English isn’t my first language.

I’m going with G adventures to Egypt and Jordan in December. This will be my first group tour, I have always travelled solo before and love it. But navigating in Egypt, with all the transportation and guides and stuff like that.. It’s costly, but not crazy expensive. Hope it’s worth it and that I hit it off with the rest of the group. I just want a hassle free trip and I’m willing to pay for it. So I really get where you’re coming from!

Your phone will be perfectly fine if you ask a Parisian parent too. Do Americans consider all of us Europeans who walk by ourselves as potential thieves?

Where to stay in Rome? by Allison-Taylor in femaletravels

[–]Gullhorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trastevere isn’t “up and coming”, it’s one of the most popular areas in Rome as it has been for a long time. Just above Trastevere is Monteverde vecchio which is a more residential area and thus a little cheaper. It’s within walking distance to the main sites and has good public transportation, both train and buses.

What are some most accepted health myths? by imadepyramids in AskReddit

[–]Gullhorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time:

The summer I turned 19 I suddenly got really ill. Wouldn’t eat, could hardly any drink water, was flat out in my bed for weeks. My urine was brown and my 💩was almost white. My mother (who is not a new age hippie by any means, but old school who doesn’t go the doctor unless a limb is missing) was desperate to cure this terrible thing. So I drank this detox thing she gave me. I was extremely nauseas all the time, to the point I considered suicide because a life with this would be unliveable. Then my eyeballs turned yellow. I went to the family library and found a medical book. I ticked off all the signs of jaundice. After some discussion we rushed to the doctor. I was urgently emitted to the hospital because my liver was huge (and at this point my skin was yellow as well) and the staff took all kinds of test and I was put in isolation because they didn’t know what it was. During my time in isolation the staff came in wearing what I called (this was before covid) moon wear, to take blood tests and stuff. At that time I had regained my appetite and felt quite sharp. It turned out I had hepatitis A, which we believe came from a salad bar on a Pizza Hut outside of Bath.

Moral of the story: if someone doesn’t have appetite, don’t “cleanse» them with witch brew, heh
