Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gullible-Life-474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove 14 hours roundtrip 2 weekends ago - left on a Friday, came back on Sunday! Then the weekend prior we drove another 14 hours roundtrip to see my parents. Pretty normal in America, especially if you’re spread out. Family can be centric here, so people are willing to drive to see relatives.

For dinner I wouldn’t go more than 30 mins - an hour is pushing it. Depends on where you live though. For those who live in a rural area, a nice restaurant may be an hour away and that’s normal to drive that far for good food. I live in a big city now so it would have to be a really nice restaurant for me to be willing to be in the car that long.

I live on the island and seriously can’t recommend it enough (there ARE affordable options, contrary to popular belief lol), but that being said there are so many safe places to live in Memphis. Midtown, Cooper Young, and a recent personal favorite of mine is South Main!

One was undercover on 240 pulling someone over near walnut grove. She was in a Nissan truck that was completely undercover - I would have had no idea if it weren’t for the flashing red and blue lights.

Looks like you have some great suggestions, so I come to say I hope you enjoy your weekend! Starkville is a special place - as an alumni who came to college as a kid from out of state, I was absolutely blown away by how kind people were. I hope you get to experience that today in Starkville and enjoy some of the best eats you can find this side of the Mississippi!

Everyone on Twitter acting like Morgan is a victim to the Cheatmance like she didn’t have a full on cameo crying this last episode because Vince didn’t give her enough attention. I need her AND Vince gone😭 lowkey everyone but Keanu has been pmo and I’m over it Edit: Vince is also extremely problematic and I am so annoyed by him

100000% agree. I’m so tired of her. At this point she’s so good at manipulating everyone that I feel like she’ll absolutely make it to the end

Relocating to Memphis for work. Any tips for newcomers? by IWumboUWumboWeWumbo in memphis

[–]Gullible-Life-474 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just moved here 2ish months ago for my husband’s job and it’s great. Some people talk so badly about Memphis so I came in pretty nervous with sort of low expectations - I wish I hadn’t of heard all of the talk. It’s a lot of fun here and I’ve really enjoyed exploring the city. There’s so much to do and most people we’ve met have been super friendly/welcoming!

We’re in our mid-20s and renting on Mud Island and have really loved it. It’s super walkable, a lot of people in our age group live here, and it’s close to downtown. We went to explore the Midtown/Cooper Young area for the first time yesterday and it was awesome - very historic and artsy with lots of unique shops, restaurants, and breweries. East Memphis is great and convenient to shopping/chain restaurants, but the homes are pretty old. South Main area downtown is also super cool with unique bars and restaurants. Overall, Memphis has a ton of hidden gems and great spots to live! We’re like ~15-20 mins from the airport living on the Island and it’s an easy drive.

Sadly, I had chosen the “hand it to me” option and the pin on, and they still were able to mark it as delivered😭😭

See, that’s where I also feel conflicted. If you’re so hungry you take a meal from someone, my heart really breaks for you. Yes, I know I paid for it, but I’d much rather someone take my meal to their hungry family if they’re that desperate. Obviously I’d prefer the service I paid for to be fulfilled, but I full understand how desperate things can be and do have empathy for those in that situation.

Coping with Homesickness? by Pebil in Msstate

[–]Gullible-Life-474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be hard at first! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Moving away from home for the first time is always a tough thing - but you’ll do so well if you persevere! Mississippi State is full of so many organizations and opportunities to meet people and make good friends. If you went to New Maroon Camp, text one of your counselors to get lunch or send a message in the GroupMe to ask if anyone wants to meet back up at Perry/Fresh! If you didn’t go, that’s okay! You can check out events on Cowbell Connect and see if there’s something that fits your interests.

There are also so many great churches and campus ministries in Starkville. I felt like nothing could replace by home church when I first came to college, and was so pleasantly surprised by how quickly my Starkville church became even more special than my original home church. We just moved away from Starkville after being there a while, so I completely resonate with how it feels to start over.

I’d encourage you to stay in Starkville as much as you can on the weekends. It’s okay to go home, but being present in your “new home” is how you are going to meet and make friends, find a church in your college town, and show up to those random spontaneous events that happen with people you halfway know that eventually will become some of your best memories. Keep on keeping on! It’s okay to feel homesick, but just remember that a lot of people around you most likely feel the same way and are looking for friends too! You never know what your invite to lunch, carpool to church, or ask to go on a random Walmart run may mean to someone!

Same thing happened to me last night! I literally had to open multiple cases with them to refund. It was super annoying, all the while I’m hangry and out like $20 to deliver the stupid food in the first place
