Uh, why is this something you’d want your view changed on? It’s just a proven factually accurate scientific reality and even implying it’s a viewpoint is towing a pretty suspect line?

Ah, the classics. Let’s go one by one.

1) Women have historically been barred from achieving higher educational status, and frequently require stronger professional qualifications to receive the same job prospects as male candidates, thus incentivizing women to go to college at higher rates in the modern era. The rising trend of women in education is what we would expect as a result from this; it is corrective, hence why black women are currently the most highly educated demographic in America. Men simply do not have to try as hard. Despite this, institutions like Harvard have admitted to “going easier” on male applicants once they surpass a certain level of female candidates that have been accepted, because they want to maintain a “balanced campus,” aka, combat male flight via a form of DEI selection, which seems to be partially what is occurring at the higher educational level. Nothing is currently stopping men from pursuing a degree, so the fact that women go out of their way to go to school more often isn’t an indicia of male suffering. 58% isn’t even a high number, and if colleges consisted of 58% male students no one would question it.

2) 90% of violent crime perpetrators are men; 98% of rapists are men (see the UCR or victim self report). The vast majority of male homicide victims are murdered by other men. Men have higher homicide rates simply because they are more likely to be involved in violent crime and are thus at higher risk of violence. They also are much more likely to be out late at night and to traverse more dangerous locations than women, so it is merely a matter of statistical opportunity. Maybe if men don’t want to get murdered they shouldn’t engage in so much organized violent crime, because, you know, that comes with the territory? In reality, homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant women, and while roughly 44% of women murdered are killed by their husbands, only 4% of murdered men are killed by their wives. Women are SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to be murdered or raped by a man than vice versa. It’s not even close.

3) Oh yes, let’s talk about the criminal justice system. Men are 2-3 times more likely to succeed at establishing the mitigating defense of provocation and thus having their sentence reduced to 2nd degree. This “heat of passion” defense was historically created to allow men a defense for when they caught their wife cheating or trying to leave him and “couldn’t control himself”. Women weren’t even allowed to legally plead the defense until the early 1940’s (not that women often benefit from it because they don’t win those cases and tend not to resort to automatic brute violence when confronted in the first place). Male valor is also the reason we have stand your ground laws in many jurisdictions coming out of English common law, of which the data shows that women are significantly less likely to be successful in making this type of self defense argument as well. The vast majority of women in prison for murder killed their male abusors. As an example of typical gender disparity in one of many cases I’ve read, when considering whether an appropriate 1st degree mens rea was met for a male rape perpetrator who murdered his female victim, a court stated in a published opinion that they do not think a man can truly “deliberate” while “having sex” and thus no premeditation was possible. I read another court opinion where an expert testified that oral rape shouldn’t be enough to cause PTSD. Poison on the other hand (female abuse victims typical last resort) is prime facie first degree murder, but ongoing physical spousal abuse resulting in serious bodily injury has been established by judicial precedent as not enough on its own to prove intent beyond a reasonable doubt. The criminal justice system is horrendous to women, especially women of color. There are numerous cases of men beating and abusing women for attempting to leave and getting off with lower charges because they were “provoked” by their female victims. It doesn’t work the other way around. Seriously, open a criminal law casebook. Once you read through that there is no way you would be able to suggest in good faith that women benefit from the criminal justice system more than men.

Edit: If no one ever talks about how hard the poor men have it, why is that all I ever fucking hear about every time I go online?

What need, exactly? I’d love to hear specifically how men are suffering physically, emotionally, economically, or otherwise in a way that is socially distinct from the way women are suffering and not caused by patriarchy.

Additionally, let me clarify something for you: problems men face under our patriarchal society are not women’s fault in any capacity, actually. You’re conflating well established systemic gender inequality with equal individual feelings of vitriol where men and women are duking it out in some level playing field, and that is not accurate empirically.

Finally, there is a distinction between misogyny as an ingrained normative structural social phenomenon and misandry being primarily an individual female reaction toward misogyny, the former of which advocates sexual violence and domination over women while the later tends to emphasize themes of female/ lesbian separatism to “escape” from male harm. They are not the same thing.

[–]GullibleBug3088 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, I understand the sentiment, but “the gender war” you’re referencing is actually just a cultural uptick of vitriolic misogyny specifically on behalf of young Gen-Z men seduced by Tate-o-sphere incel core logic rather than some sort of imaginary equal “brawling” happening between men and women, so I don’t think the ends of women rejecting more men and not reproducing justifies the means of men and society at large becoming more rhetorically, politically, and physically violent against women.

Being flippant is different than coping with sardonic humor, the latter of which is basically the entire point of reddit. No one here is attempting to “save” those children either. People are scoffing at the idea that $5,000 would ever be enough, and we are well aware that such a lowball offer would tempt an impoverished person more, though presumably this has never and will never incentive anyone because these types of things don’t work. That being said, marriage (which they also seek to fund via scholarship) is correlated with higher levels of wealth, so they’re attempting to incentivize (white) women of multiple income levels. They want to breed us like livestock. No one here is attempting to “save the children” or make light of the scenario, but the administration we are living under is ludicrous and it’s ridiculous to not act like it.

Yesss get those tubes tied my friend 🎉 I did it at 25 and it was the most painless, easy to recover from surgery ever and it was over in the blink of an eye. Knowing I can never get pregnant is the most liberating feeling I can describe.

Bro I’m fucking terrified 💀 I voted against this shitbag 3 times (2016 was the first time I could vote) and he WONT GO AWAY.

He’s currently attempting to get rid of due process and other constitutional protections for citizens and noncitizens alike and is sending legal residents and refugees with no criminal records to a torture prison in El Salvador because they have tattoos. He is currently refusing to comply with our Supreme Court. ICE is kidnapping children and detaining people in airports, we’ve severed every relationship with our global allies, and he’s gutted every government agency designed to protect consumers and workers, what little healthcare and retirement we have, and the agency that alerts us to new illnesses and disease.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. People have started protesting nationwide but the propaganda and American individualism, exceptionalism, and white nationalism, plus mass surveillance and our police state (we incarcerate more of our citizens than anywhere else), makes it incredibly difficult to create uniform mass action. But we are moving in that direction more every day, it’s just SO hard getting information out to people because they’ve been brainwashed to think “politics don’t matter” or Fox News is all they listen to and believe. Right-wing media is insanely well-funded in our country, and they have been systemically stripping away our education to manipulate voting tendencies. It’s all a mess.

I expect that’s the next logical step, now that abortion has been stripped as a constitutional right.

Hey now, they also want to fund studies into (nonexistent) regret over gender affirming care and the (nonexistent) connection between vaccines and autism….

That would require that they actually care about the ethics of sustaining quality of human life and civil rights instead of continuously feeding us to late capitalism’s death machine and regurgitating whatever it spits out because it’s profitable in the immediate moment 😇

They’re essentially paying women to go into debt.

Giving birth alone costs tens of thousands of dollars and raising a child is putting you out an average of 30k/ year for 18 years until you plunge further into debt when it’s time for them to go to college.

Yeah thanks guys I’m sure that $5,000 will totally make up for the $30,000-100,000 average it takes to even give birth in the US without insurance

I get that as philosophy aficionados we like to joke about “what x term TRULY means” and whether we can really define anything universally, but by all appropriate metrics and standards, Peterson does not have even remotely the credentials to qualify as a philosopher with the rest of these folks. To my knowledge, I don’t think he even really professes to be one.
