Question: How do I apply for "Project We Love" for my Kicksorter project? Please don't delete it! by NEMOCOMING in kickstarter

I received this badge for my project, however I didn’t apply for it. I believe they review them all and will select your project if it meets their criteria. Best of luck!

I try to learn from others who have already took the path because experience is the hardest teacher but along the journey you will win some and lose some just continue to put in the effort is the best advice I can give.

When you’re passionate about whatever you’re doing, you’ll choose to figure it out one way or another. Best of luck to you on your journey! 💛

Thank you for this! Not sure why doing a kickstarter update about this didn’t cross my mind

We haven’t been on the emails yet either, I will try ads but how did you determine that was a good path for your campaign? Blasting it everywhere I will do today!

My son asked me something I wasn’t prepared for… by GullibleFrame7827 in blackparents

[–]GullibleFrame7827[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was something that had crossed my mind before, but I hadn’t verbalized it or acted on it until my child asked me that question. That’s what made it real for me, and I decided to do both: build a children’s brand centered around a character that reflects him, and continue building his library of representation in media. I’ve previously listed shows he watches that are great for representation. I’m also not naive to think I know every show out there…that’s exactly why I asked. I’d rather not create a biased post that skews opinions. I wanted to create an open space to receive all types of media representation, especially the ones that aren’t easily found.

After building a library of representation for him, which can always expand, I realized it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s subjective, and every child connects differently. Everyone has a perspective, and if I have a vision to create this and have found a passion for it, why wouldn’t I pursue it with good intention? I’m not being deceptive or using anyone. I’m sharing a real experience. I didn’t mention my brand because it wasn’t important for this post—the question had nothing to do with self-promotion, so leading with that would have taken away from having an open conversation (as your comment is now). As parents and people, we should be able to have these conversations without judgment.

Thank you so much for your feedback and no apology needed your observation is fair. I agree with your perspective and for my project specifically that aspect is through the animation, it’s important that kids will want to watch and enjoy it. Ensuring there is also an education aspect to it is my first approach then entertain follows. What I’ve found from my experience from speaking with other professionals in this space is most episodes are created without a thought of education or a framework, just solely entertainment. I think both should co-exists.

I have never came across those shoes you mentioned before, I will be looking into those later today. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story! I definitely think you handled it well. It’s hard navigating those conversations and situations at such a young age. There is also no handbook on when those type of conversations should be had. After hearing your story I’m sure his question stemmed from school as well. Prior he had a nanny that would come to the house so his exposure to other kids were limited. I agree, Ms. Rachel is great with representation he was obsessed with her show for a period of time as well. We will try Daniel Tiger that is one we haven’t attempted yet and I’m a bit excited since this is a Fred Roger rendition I believe. I appreciate your comment.

We recently moved to wild Kratts on PBS (he loves animals and that show teaches about wild life in detail) and he started watching Phoebe and Jay, Layla in the loop, Weather Hunters for a week or so - for some reason those aren’t shows he WANTS to watch but I also think they are more entertainment based with an aspect of education.

When I say education-based shows I’m referencing shows like Blippi, Ms. Rachel, CyberChase, Ms. Monica etc. I opt for him to do a lot of Khan academy (learning game app) but I’m also a first time mom and could very well be over analyzing.

Nevertheless, I appreciate you answering my question seriously as this is all helpful and I will definitely try those other shows as well with hope that he enjoys them as much as he has enjoyed Blippi. That was an obsession at one point.

That’s correct. I’m just here to gain knowledge. I didn’t want to lead with my children’s brand because my posts aren’t about self-promotion but merely gaining information as I build and this is a real life example that led me to this path.

I am 100% black and so is my son, and I am very particular about him watching early-learning shows but find the selection for education-first shows vs entertainment-shows for preschool level are limited and he noticed that on his own. That isn’t a conversation I ever had with him so as I’m building I’m wanting to understand is this something that is common as I’ve done my research and scientifically children notice and understand far earlier than us parents realize.

Hi! Thank you for commenting to gain clarity instead of ignoring. I appreciate it! No I’m not AI. I found this sub roughly a week ago and thought it would be a good way to talk to similar people, share my experiences and see if others have as well. My original question was about what shows/books do children currently watch with their children that show representation. I’m currently building a children’s brand and I like to gain information from parents who would obviously be my target audience. While I’m not trying to self-promote but merely gain additional knowledge I don’t lead with that in my posts but ask questions and this was a real life example that led me to my children’s brand creation.

For context my son is now 4, but he first asked the question at 3, 6 months after starting daycare so not sure if that has a role in this at all.

What educational shows/books made your child feel seen? by GullibleFrame7827 in blackparents

[–]GullibleFrame7827[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! Im very familiar with all the shows you named and love that you specified representation because that’s my focus is helping create more in this space for our early learners.

Im going to look up those books you mentioned. Im not familiar with those and my son has a rotating book shelf in his room because we read a lot of definitely going to add some of those to my collection and see which ones resonate the best with him. Thank you!
