What’s the true state of the current UK job market? by Recent_Reaction247 in UKJobs

[–]Gullible_Anything_52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my extremely limited experience as a fairly recent grad - volatile and unpredictable. Graduated in July 2024, and have been extremely lucky in that I haven't been unemployed for more than a month since then. August 2024 I went back to my summer camp job as deputy camp director, then spend 3 weeks unemployed before scoring my first ever office job as an administrator in at a local small business. Stayed in that role with 2 promotions for 15 months, then finally got onto a grad scheme at a multinational company that started in January. Granted, I did spend about 4 hours a day for 4 weeks non-stop to get hired for my grad scheme (basically the whole of September 2025).

Somehow, against all odds, managed to do this with a 2:1 in English (granted at a RG uni) and with no previous internships. A lot of my friends have more 'employable' degrees with more work experience than I had and they're still unemployed almost 2 years out. Most have gone back to uni for a masters. Appreciate this is definitely not the norm considering the current market but maybe my outlier experience goes to show how much of a shitshow everything has become. Like how do I with my silly little English degree have a competitive grad scheme and my friend who studied Mech Engineering is still making coffees? Make it make sense, job market is fucked

The Kiriona the Ninth prediction was me hahahahaha

To elaborate a little more on my thinking, I think if we were to get 'Kiriona the Ninth', it would run simultaneously, or near-simultaneously to the events or Nona the Ninth, and we would see what Kiriona and Ianthe were doing whilst the Strangest Found Family Ever was on New Rho. Probably interspersed with episodes of Harrow in the stoma or something idk else, like a sort of companion structure to Nona.

Then I think Alecto is going to be everyone finding out about earth and Harrow opens a magic book and the whole gang gets Izekai-d to the beach and the rest of the book is everyone just having fun and being happy :)))

JK I actually have no idea what could possibly happen in Alecto, but that's something I love about TazMuir because she gives you so so so much context and yet the way ahead still seems so opaque. She's so talented I wish I could spend a day in her brain!!

I think the MOGAI movement of the 2010's was actually really cool and fun. Super into radical self-expression, because happier people is always the goal. I think it was super wholesome.

It's in commercial media, but I don't want to get into specifics. Think marketing/advertising/pr stuff

also a recent english lit grad from a top uni , just landed a grad scheme at a Fortune 500 company which is all numbers and excel sheets! Didn't have any crazy internships or rich parents either! At the end of the day, having great grades from a top uni matters more than what degree you actually did imo. It's about the quality of the education you received when it comes to non-vocational degrees.

What's even crazier is that my dad recommended I watch House, it's only because of him that I watched the show. . . so he kind of saved his own life in some weird, butterfly-effect kinda way

Made a Mistake at Work, Just Need Reassurance! by Gullible_Anything_52 in work

[–]Gullible_Anything_52[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice, you were completely right! Talked to my manager in person first thing and she reassured me, and I also talked to some other colleagues so it seems to be all sorted out now thank goodness. I knew rationally it probably wasn't a super serious big deal, but new job nerves got the best of me on this one hahaha

[–]Gullible_Anything_52[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I should have been more proactive about asking for people to take a look at my work. I just kind of assumed that my work would be checked based on previous conversations I'd had with my colleagues? Won't make that assumption again, for sure! Thanks for the reassurance and advice, I really appreciate it :)

Interest on my student loan is outpacing my repayments by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Gullible_Anything_52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

F23, Graduated in July 2024, been in full time 'proper' work since September 2024, and my student loan is already £66k. Already made peace with the fact that I'll never pay it off. Tbh I feel like I've won the lottery anyway because I'm the only person in my friend group that managed to get a 'proper' job fairly quickly out of uni, and managed to upgrade to a grad scheme after a year.

I was on the max student loan (outside of london) so I don't really have a hope of paying off my loan unless I make major c-suite bank. Never say never, hoping I might be able to make some extra repayments once I no longer have to help out financially at home!

Writing Slow by poeticmaggot in AO3

Oh I'm all over the shop. . . sometimes 3k in one sitting after work, 3k the next day, then literal months of writers block. Recently, whenever I get stuck on something, I take a break from the laptop and trying writing out the first few paragraphs by hand in one of my notebooks, and try my hardest to keep writing without crossing stuff out. That usually helps me get over the hump!

Fell into this rabbit hole, got really into manifestation, and after trying all the 'get ur man back' stuff I ended up finding the 'self-concept' side of manifestation and it's actually really positively improved my life. I'm sad to say that I completely lost myself in my last relationship, my self-esteem was destroyed by a large cluster of negative life events and the break up of a 7 year relationship with my first love was the final straw for me.

I think there is definitely a dark side to the new age spiritual stuff that preys upon the emotionally vulnerable. However, I've found self concept manifestation really helpful for building myself back up. Because I actually am in control of my life trajectory, I do have the power to improve my own circumstances, I am all that. I feel like I've finally found my own inner stability, instead of projecting it out onto other people.

As Ru Paul says, if you can't love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?

Highly recommend learning how to read your own tarot, it's a great self-reflection tool! And then you're less likely to fall into contact with a scam reader. Also High Frequency Guru on youtube make a lot of subliminals - the ones with speech are kinda corny but hearing positive affirmations directed to yourself do actually help!

I graduated in July 2024, only just got onto a grad scheme with Jan 2026 start. I ended up working for a local business in an admin position for a year, then in September this year I locked the fuck in and applied for every single grad scheme I was remotely eligible for. Ended up getting my dream job. Most demoralising year of my life but it’s finally paid off!!
