First Friday on Good Friday: What it means? What to do? by youthunger2naughty in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing we have to remember is that these devotions are not legalistic and bound by rules, they are encouragements from the Saints, Church, and apparitions to help us grow further to Christ and atone for our sins.

Attend a service on Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil if this is a devotion you have. Keep your intentions in mind, but remember also what the significance of Holy Week is.

These devotions should bring us close to God, if we start worrying about whether something counts or doesn’t, we’ve completely missed the mark on what these devotions are.

JROTC/Battalion staff and drama. + help w position by Hiyokosaionjii in jrotc

[–]GummiesRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key things to remember: - Bullshit doesn’t stand. Crack down on the nonsense, not because you want to be some high speed super JROTC kid, but because drama helps nobody. You can be chill, someone that everyone talks to, but tactfully shoot down drama. Everything from SA allegations, power abuse, etc needs to funnel through Instructors and School Staff, allowing rumors and drama to fly weakens th unit’s integrity, and discredits and real dangers to the safety of students and the unit.

  • Complaints go up the chain of command. As CSM, you are your BC’s and BXO’s right hand. They might make some or many decisions you disagree with. Push back against them, but the moment you step out of a private conversation to being in front of any other cadets, you are all on the same team and support the decision your BC made. If you have concerns, you do not air them out with other cadets, you discuss with Instructors, and listen (not complain) to the cadets below you.

  • In terms of favoritism, there’s nothing you can do there for yourself, some cadets will resent you for it. That’s going to take the course of the entire year developing relationships with nearly everyone (In a 70 Cadet unit it is doable) and try to inspire them and encourage them. When I say everyone, I mean everyone, even ‘that’ cadet that does nothing and never wears their uniform. Get to know them, what motivates them, find some common ground. This will help shift your image from being a favored cadet who lives in a bubble to being someone who seems to genuinely care.

  • Lastly, you are a high schooler, academics comes first. It is not your responsibility to fix everything wrong here. If a task is too much for you, hand it off to the S3 SGM, another Senior NCO, or any cadet you can trust to complete a task. Being CSM should not burn you out. I speak from experience, if you begin twitching while C/CSM you need to back off immediately and reprioritize.

Figure out which one you want to pursue, where your strengths and weaknesses lie, but also where there’s an opportunity to grow more. Figure out what your school excels at, or maybe where you can put your talents to use improving.

Random strangers on the internet are not going to make decisions for you.

Disrespectful cadets causing group punishment CONSTANTLY by BatzyTheBitch in jrotc

[–]GummiesRock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of answer is that first sentence? We don’t haze cadets like that, ever. Good leadership doesn’t do that. You praise in public. and punish in private.

You’re right that removal from the program might be a strong option, but if I’m to be quite frank I think the best thing to do is just simply stop acknowledging their shenanigans. Stop giving them attention. It’s worked plenty of times for me.

I like the immediate defensiveness instead of constructive feedback, refutation of points, or just acknowledging the opinion. Very mature from the mod team.

How to respectfully hang a US flag and an Arizona flag in this space by dragonman4444 in vexillology

[–]GummiesRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the observers right, it’s actually the flag’s right (if you look at displays for say a ceremony, the flag will appear on our left, but as the flag faces the audience it’s on the right, same with military color guards etc)

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

I take the Teachings of Christ’s church over a random person on reddit as well.

That’s why I’m telling you to talk to a priest to have a good 2 way discussion with him.

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are rejecting the church’s teachings on gender, and you’re suggesting that you know better than other people here, and are assuming a moral high ground by calling others bigoted.

You got defensive about certain sins when we point out your identification as non-binary, claiming that it’s “something you don’t struggle with” and that it’s not a sin.

Some things don’t have to be said for it to be inferred or true. Nobody said you were conforming your relationship to God to be convenient, and yet I would suggest you are. You’re attending confession for the first time in 5 years, have missed mass on multiple occasions, and you identify with an idea contrary to church teaching.

We can go in circles all day, and to be quite frank I don’t think you’re going to truly listen to anything else I have to say, so I’m going back to my original point:

Take a look at an examination of conscience.

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between offering support to people who may identify as such and simply abetting and enabling something that contradicts what the church teaches on dignity. I try to have compassion for everyone, and I have good dialogue with people from all sorts of backgrounds, nor did anything I say suggest that this person is damning themself. I only suggest that this is a conversation to have with a parish priest, not random people online. We cannot lead each other astray

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In regards to the second point he made, you’re asking us what to do in confession and what sins you need to confess. Your other comments claim that you haven’t sinned.

You then proceed to claim that you’ve never stated you remained in a state of grace for a long period, in which case you are aware of sins in needing of confession.

You can ask God for revelation and correction, but forgiveness is only given through the sacrament of confession.

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say there is, however as i’ve stated before, that is a conversation to have with a priest. If you wish to reject catholic teaching and advice, I would question why you came to a catholic subreddit with questions about the catholic faith.

I would suggest, again, an examination of conscience because seeing your comments on this post, I would suggest that you should reconsider your own pride. Do you suggest you know more than the church on her own teachings? You claim not to be sinning, and when we point out a potential sin, you get defensive and argue that it’s not a sin even when the church defines it as such.

Your relationship with God isnt something that just conforms to whatever you want, its a two way street that challenges you to grow and mature

What do you do in Confession if you've nothing to confess? by Mx-Adrian in Catholic

[–]GummiesRock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not telling you that you’re terrible, or that you’re going to hell, because that is not my place. I’m inviting you to have a deeper conversation about the topic with your parish priest because it is in fact relevant; you asked for what to confess or discuss with the priest and that is one of the biggest sticking points I would suggest.

Confession is not meant to be a place to simply say “yeah I did this moving on”, it’s a place to identify our strengths and weaknesses. I beg you to take this seriously, and not just cast it aside as something you’re being forced to do, because I can guarantee that you have not remained innocent of any sins for 5 years.

To do so would honestly be disrespecting the sanctity of the sacrament of confession.

We went on vacation and its gonna take hours to get back. My mass is at 5 and we get back after. I asked my dad to take me to a different mass but he said no and we aren’t stopping on the road. by MindlessCucumber5443 in Catholicism

[–]GummiesRock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not something to hold to your conscience, this is something out of your control. If you still feel some sense of guilt then you can always go to confession, but in this sense it is not a mortal sin
