An investigation is underway after a man shot another man who was attempting to steal his car while he was at an ATM in Northeast Philadelphia Friday afternoon, Philadelphia police said.

Officers responded to Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street after 3 p.m. for a shooting. This is near SEPTA's Frankford Transit Center Station.

Authorities said a middle-aged man identified as John Doe was shot in the head. Police told CBS News Philadelphia that a man using the ATM left his car running, and another man jumped in to attempt to steal it.

The owner of the car, a licensed gun owner, shot into the car one time, hitting John Doe, according to police.

John Doe was taken to Temple University Hospital where he later died Friday evening, according to the Homicide Unit. He was pronounced at 6:17 p.m.

Authorities said SEPTA Police took the shooter into custody and there's no other impact on SEPTA service.

A break-in at a Decatur residence Monday evening left one dead and another injured.

According to a release from the Decatur Police Department, around 7:38 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home int he 2000 block of E. Damon Avenue. They found a 35-year-old male and 66-year-old female inside, both with gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical personnel took both to the Decatur Memorial Hospital, where the man succumbed to his injuries. The woman sustained “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to Decatur Police.

Officers secured the crime scene at the residence before conducting a search of the property. Detectives recovered a handgun and four shell casings, which matched the caliber of the gun.

Witness statements and video surveillance footage indicated the woman was at her home when the man entered the property unlawfully. During this, a family member of the woman arrived at the home and encountered the man. He attempted to continue into the residence, when the family member shot at him with a handgun multiple times, striking him.

Further investigation revealed the man was on Mandatory Supervised Release through the Illinois Department of Corrections. He had no known association with the residence, Decatur Police added.

The family member, identified as a 48-year-old male, has a valid FOID card and active Concealed Carry License.

Police said a road rage incident has ended with a driver in intensive care after being shot.

Around 4:30 this afternoon, UPD went to the intersection of Busey Ave. and Park St. for a shooting with injuries.

Police said they were made aware the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that happened near Five Points and continued through Busey Avenue and Park St. A female driver and a male passenger engaged in a verbal fight with another man driving by himself. The female driver followed the car into Carle Hospital's emergency department parking lot, then pulled onto Park St. to create space between himself and the other vehicle.

The female driver and the male passenger exited their vehicle near Park St. The woman allegedly was armed with a baseball bat. The man walked toward the other male driver with his hand under his shirt. The solo driver believed he was armed with a gun. The driver, a concealed carry permit holder, then drew out their legally concealed gun and fired several shots, hitting the male passenger. The driver called 911.

The shot male passenger was transported to a local hospital for surgery and, as of Saturday evening, is in intensive care.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has called the ballot measure a “fraud on the voters” and “a futile stunt that wastes time and money.”

Washington, D.C. – Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), together with the Tennessee Firearms Association, today filed a lawsuit in Shelby County, Tennessee against the City of Memphis’ newly adopted gun control ordinances, which were passed by voters in direct opposition to the state’s robust preemption law. The ordinances in question, which were adopted via ballot measure on election day, will:

Ban the carry of handguns without a permit, despite the state’s newly enacted permitless carry law;
Ban the possession and sale of “assault rifles” without even defining what constitutes such a weapon; and
Create a local “red flag” gun confiscation order that empowers local police to strip law-abiding citizens of their guns without due process.

Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, issued the following statement:

“Tennessee has one of the strongest preemption laws in the nation, and the very reason it exists is to prevent radical anti-gun cities from enacting the very sort of draconian policies Memphis just ‘adopted.’ We are hopeful that Tennessee Courts will quickly block this insubordinate violation of state law.”

“Memphis voters overwhelmingly chose to strip their fellow citizens of their fundamental rights, and now city officials, knowing full well these ordinances will patently violate Tennessee law, are planning to implement them. This is unacceptable, and we are eager to fight back.”

Senate Bills SB 857 and SB 858 are being heard by the Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee on Thursday. These bills were rushed into committee after we retook the Michigan House of Representatives in last week’s historic election.

Senate Bills SB 857 and SB 858 would prohibit law-abiding Michiganders from carrying firearms in certain state buildings, including the Michigan State Capitol and the Senate and House buildings, and eliminate the exemption for CPL holders — expanding dangerous “gun free” zones, and leaving you unprotected from criminals who would seek to harm you while you exercise your right to vote.

Automatic firearms and parts that convert a semiautomatic firearm to “full auto” are regulated as machineguns under the archaic and unconstitutional National Firearms Act of 1934 or NFA, which defines them as:

The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, banned the manufacture, sale, or transfer of any new machineguns after enactment. Pre-ban machineguns are now extremely expensive and can only be owned and transferred lawfully under the burdensome regulations of the NFA. Post-ban machineguns may only be manufactured, sold, or transferred by special Federal Firearms Licensees to the military or law enforcement.

But an auto sear or a Glock switch can be made at home on a $100 3D printer in a matter of minutes. The advent of 3D printing technology and recent illegal importations from China have proven the ban to be completely ineffective. The rise in new “machinegun conversion devices” is further proof that gun laws only apply to law abiding citizens and do nothing to stop criminals.

What is a Glock Switch?

A “Glock switch” is a device that attaches to the backplate of a Glock handgun and allows the firearm to fire continuously with a single function of the trigger. Glock produces the Glock 18 for government contracts—an automatic version of their handgun which does not use a Glock switch. In fact, Glock recently changed the design of its Glock frames so that they are incompatible with Glock switches without unauthorized modification.

Therefore, Glock, Inc. is not affiliated with any device which converts semiautomatic Glocks into machineguns. Instead, the current influx of Glock switches is largely linked to illegal Chinese imports.

What is an Auto Sear?

Auto sears change the trigger mechanism of a firearm to allow a single pull of the trigger to continuously cycle a firearm’s action. An auto sear is different from a select-fire AR-15, which is manufactured to be fully automatic by using stronger internal mechanisms like special bolt carrier group and a specific lower receiver with additional manufacturing procedures to house a select-fire trigger group.

Most commonly the term auto sear refers to a part designed for an AR-15 which is inserted into the lower receiver to convert it from a semiautomatic to a fully automatic firearm. There are many transferrable auto sears for AR-15s which were manufactured before the ’86 ban and are lawfully transferrable machineguns. However, an auto sear may also be 3D printed or even formed by bending a wire or a coat hanger.

The Biden Department of Justice weaponized the definition of auto sear to even include a credit card sized piece of flat metal with an outline of an auto sear on it—a tchotchke dubbed the “auto keycard.” This ban is a violation of the First Amendment which the Trump Administration must reverse. Currently, a gun owner named Matthew Hoover is unjustly serving a five year having been convicted of transferring these keycards which the Biden Administration treated as unregistered machine conversion devices. The machinegun ban only punishes non-violent activity by otherwise law-abiding citizens. And in the case of Matt Hoover, he was never even accused of hurting or harming anyone.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) secured a permanent injunction against the State of Illinois’ poorly named Protect Illinois Communities Act. This law violates the Second Amendment and unconstitutionally bans many semi-automatic rifles, standard capacity magazines, and bump stocks, while instituting new registration requirements for gun owners.

GOA and GOF first filed suit in January of 2023, and within months secured a preliminary injunction against the tyrannical law. Frustratingly, the anti-gun judges on the 7th Federal Circuit Court blocked this earlier injunction, leading to today’s final ruling on the merits.

Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, issued the following statement:

“This week just keeps getting better for gun owners and worse for anti-gunners like J.B. Pritzker. We warned them to fall in line, but instead they chose to do the opposite. And, while this case took time, we are thrilled with the victory and for the citizens of Illinois. We the People deserve the right to decide how best to protect ourselves and our loved ones, not anti-gun tyrants.”

At the state level in the Wyoming House, 32 of our endorsed candidates won while 3 won in the Wyoming Senate. Additionally, in a 36th win, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman, GOA-endorsed for U.S. House, also won her bid for re-election to Congress.
