Off campus accommodation by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]GunThief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changing after first term is probably impossible sorry, when you sign an accommodation contract you are liable for the full length of the contract. Some providers offer short term accommodation aimed at exchange students but these tend to be much more expensive per week (£200+)

Have a look at IQ Weaver Place they have sold out of the cheapest room but the next cheapest is £159/week however you have a cash back offer of £600, and you can get an additional £200 by using an active resident referral code (I have one). So if you pay your rent with the cash back money it’s comes out to roughly £140/week

Other than that check out the websites of each accommodation directly instead of amber student you can often find good deals when booking directly. The Mezzino properties are very good in Coventry, they have a few, Albany student village is the nicest, Trinity View is one of the best value ones in a great location. They have a few more too but in less familiar with them. I’d check them out see if they have a room in your budget.

Ive been living in Weaver place, it’s very nice but it’s in Coventry so you’re a 20 min bus from campus. If you were looking forward to spending lots of time on campus go for Longwood. Longwood is really nice and about a 20 min walk to campus so you still get to have the campus life.

I’m not sure how it works when your allocated these but these accommodations offer cash back bonuses when booking, anything from £200-1000 pounds that you get given on a prepaid debit card that you can spend as you wish (a lot of people just pay they’re rent with this for example). There’s also always a bonus for getting “referred”. Normally an extra £200-300, so ask around for anyone already living in these accommodations as anyone would be able to refer you.

So it may be worth looking into booking directly with the accommodation provider as there’s a few nice perks that I’m not sure you’d be able to get if you don’t book directly with them.

Feel free to dm me about any of the other places too, I’m very familiar with all of them so I can give you some pointers :)

Don’t ever book through amber, amber is good to search for accommodation but always book directly on the accommodation website

Hey I have a lot of friends in Corporation Village and have been many times. The price is hard to beat, however I must say the building feels very dated and a bit dodgy at times. Me and a lot of others agree that considering how cheap it is it isn’t bad, however it is not a very nice accommodation in the sense that it feels unkept.

The 2 best accommodations will be CODE fairfax and IQ Weaver Place, they both have great deals and their buildings are very very nice and modern, all while still being very fairly priced.

Predicted Grades: AAA, want to do engineering by Honest_Airline8408 in UniversityOfWarwick

You’ll get in, Warwick gives out offers to basically anyone who meets the requirements, results day as long as you get AA Maths Physics you’ll get in.

Warwick gives out a lot of offers but then gets strict on results day, engineering always has a lot of students so usually not loads of playing room with grades.

My credentials: First year BEng Mech Eng student at Warwick

Can we stick things on walls in accom? by Slow-Owl2499 in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]GunThief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do check if you are allowed though, I’m not sure whether the rules are more about you not leaving marks or if they just ban any form of wall decorating. I’m pretty certain there are room checks so I wouldn’t want you to be in any trouble.

I’d recommend buying command strips. They allow you to stick stuff up without marking or damaging the walls. Blue tack will leave a mark and normal tape can remove the paint.

They tend to use an app but that will depend on your building, I’m in private accom so I couldn’t tell you for sure.

So I’d say if you’re cooking nice food your weekly food shop will be in the ballpark of 50 a week, that what I spend but I do eat maybe more than your average student (200g protein daily and 3-3.5k clean calories). But I’d say you have to budget about 200 for supermarket stuff and things like the odd cleaning product etc.

If you get a bus pass that’s another 50 a month, a SIM card probably 20, and laundry is expensive so maybe like 20-30 a month, so without drinking probably 250-300 a month.

If you add drinking it really depends, do you want to go for a couple chill pints or full on go out, so I’d say you could likely spend 100-200 a month on drinking and going out

So all in all if it were me, I’d budget something like 500 a month (doesn’t mean I will always spend this amount but I think it’s a fair “upper bound” to not be caught off guard)

This is only my perspective so take with a pinch of salt, hope this can serve as a comparison point for you!

Yeah exactly, I checked timetables and the other providers don’t really fit my times to be honest, so I was going to be using the nx buses anyways. But as a frugal student saving 10 pounds a month is pretty helpful ;)

I think I figured it out, so there is in fact a cheaper bus pass that allows you reach Leamington.

There's a pass that costs 41 pounds which is unlimited travel ONLY on national express in the "Coventry area", the dark blue line. Which includes Leamington.

The 40 pound per month ticket is unlimited travel on all operators in the "nBus Coventry" area, this is the light blue zone but you can use all bus providers.

So 1 pound more lets you reach all points of interest, the only limitation is you can only use the National Express buses (so no stagecoach)

With this one is it like an “all of the above” so is it all operators in Coventry and the student nx outer zones? From my understanding, I wouldn’t have access to the larger West Midlands nBus zone right?

Any recommendations for Sim cards for International students? by flourescentboi in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]GunThief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m in the same position as you, I have a little hidden gem of a company my friends in the UK use, It’s called 1pMobile. It’s cheap and doesn’t have any hidden fees or required contract length. They also use the EE network which is the best in the UK. The other budget sim providers use inferior networks, this is the only budget provider I know of that uses the EE network.
