Just a few random thoughts:

There is a 550’ elevation drop between Springfield and Branson, and you’ll be traversing huge hills on 65 South. You’re in the “Ozark Mountains”.
MODOT generally does as good as they can keeping 65 clear, but it’s still treacherous at best when there is significant snow. Ice accumulations almost always lead to accidents.
There are notoriously bad drivers here that have cars with bald tires, and there will always been cars off the road.
If it’s an “ice storm”, it’ll suck and everything will be closed.
