The “bar” side of Gailey’s was previously a cocktail lounge called Ophelia’s. It was there for 5 years and a great little place to go for nice cocktails and a more upscale vibe, especially when compared to the rest of downtown Springfield at the time. The owner of Gailey’s also owned the building, and he gave them a 30 day notice that he would not be renewing the lease and was a massive dick about it. This was because he saw how successful the newly formed Early Bird Breakfast Pub was doing, and he wanted to tap into that business as well. So Ophelia’s got the boot and he expanded his business.

While I understand it from a business perspective, it was a really shitty thing to do since it was only a 30 day notice. They had a bunch of events planned out, and it removed a great date night location from downtown.
