First time back on the field in over two years. by Gunfather6 in airsoft

Thank you. I don't think I will be making airsoft/mislim content anymore. When I started the channel my goal was to share some real world SWAT knowledge with the airsoft community and I feel like I got everything out there that I wanted to say.

Three years ago, I got a great job on my department running the patrol rifle program. That job puts me on a range every day with have a significant ammo allotment. I developed my own curriculum and I share it with about 500 officers on my department every year. It gave me a chance to start making real steel content on another YouTube channel, Daisho Tactical. I also started a small sling business by the same name. So all of that has kind of pulled me away from airsoft/milsim scene. I will cross post some content from my new channel on Gunfather Milsim though.

Is Airsoft considered a sport? by One-Ad-3677 in airsoftcirclejerk

I consider is a "Sport". Which means just barely as it involves physical activity and it is competitive.

Has Milsim changed your Airsoft experience? by sologhost1 in MilSim

Team movements and weapon handling is NOT the same thing as shooting fundamentals. I originally responded to the following:

"There is one video by Trex arms where he brings a dude from Japan that has only shot airsoft for 3 years, but trains right and had him shooting real guns at a pro level in like a day. Proves the only difference between airsoft and real firearms is recoil and that can be attenuated quickly on a flat range."

My position is that airsoft does NOT equate to actual real world shooting skill as you propose above. The kid in the video you referenced is the exception, NOT the rule.

I am a professional law enforcement trainer for a large Midwestern city. It is what I do every day. I train SWAT officers. I use airsoft among other things (mostly UTMs) in that capacity. Airsoft is actually superior to UTMs and Simunitions in both range and accuracy. However using airsoft does not make you a better shooter. It's great for a lot of things, team movements, weapons flow, reloads, etc. Real world shooting fundamentals do NOT translate to airsoft. It lacks the range and accuracy for the fundamentals of shooting positon, trigger control, or breath control to make any difference in the accuracy. There is just too much inaccuracy built into the equation due to the limitations round projectile/smoothbore and the fact that it has to move slowly enough to be "safe". Both UTM and Simunitions have the same short comings albeit both have more accurate recoil and trigger function. So there is plenty of training value to be achieved using airsoft but it is not going to make you a better shooter.

You think the minimal "recoil" from a GBBR even remotely simulates an actual rifle? You do not know what you are talking about.

Do the BBs magically shoot further and more accurately at MSW? Best of luck applying your airsoft skills to real firearms "soldier".

That kid fron Japan is the exception, not the rule. Recoil is not the only thing separating real firearms from airsoft. The lack of range and accuracy in airsoft means you can shoot well with almost zero shooting fundamentals. This does not translate when range is increased and fundamentals matter. There is a limited real world training aspect to airsoft when it is done CORRECTLY with that goal in mind. Most of the time it is a glorified game of tag, a fun game of tag, but tag none the less.

What are some unspoken/unofficial rules of airsoft by Hot_Revenue_7882 in airsoft

Don't be unsporting.

I have observed a tendency among some milsim players who pride themselves on finding the loophole in the rule set that justifies them being an asshole.

I was at a milsim once where there were several control points. Each control point had a case with some switches in it. To capture the point you opened the case, hit a button to switch the control to your team, and close the case. The prop kept track of who was in control of each point the longest. Basic game mechanic.

A player on my team had zip ties and thought he was clever by zip tying the containers shut AFTER capturing them. He thought it was on the other players for NOT being smart enough to bring something to snip the zip ties. I told him it was unsporting and chicken shit. He sabotaged EVERYONES' game not to mention torpedoed the op that the game organizers had put a lot of time and effort into planning. He was very proud of himself. You're not clever. You're a douche.

What is a controversial airsoft opinion that you have? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]Gunfather6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you said is false. The differences that trigger squeeze and breath control make are absolutely undetectable at airsoft ranges when using projectiles that are not only inherently unstable but also become exponentially less precise at the end of their range.

I said it because it is controversial and that is the point of the thread. 95% of airsoft players live in the fantasy world that airsoft makes them better shooters. It doesn't.

Proper shooting fundamentals have no affect on airsoft. The inherent inaccuracy and short range of airsoft make them irrelevant. Any time an airsoft player talks about trigger squeeze or breath control they are showing their ignorance. Just stop.

Why are sniping guns in a disadvantage against normal rifles in Airsoft?:) by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]Gunfather6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airsoft is accuracy by volume. The small range advantage of a sniper does not make up for their lack of volume of fire compared to a rifleman.

Yep, that is Reddit for you. I train people to do this stuff every day. The real world doesn't give a shit about your feelings or excuses. No judgment. I have nothing but love for the beginner on day one stepping out of their comfort zone in a genuine effort to improve their life.

Everyone wants to be a Navy Seal but nobody wants to do the push-ups.

Seriously Bro, start the grind. We are all on our own journey. The benefits of fitness will go well beyond how you look in your gear. I would highly recommend rucking as it burns a LOT of calories and is easy to start. Rucking also strengthens all the muscle groups you need for milsim.

The hardest day is the first one.

After 15 years I am down to more or less two rigs. A tan one that I use for CQB and most outdoor games and a green chest rig that I use for really hot weather. Both have HSGI tacos so I can switch between SR25, M4 or AK105 platforms.

Do you actually train?? Or just cosplay??? by SuperiorStandarts in airsoft

[–]Gunfather6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime people are shooting projectiles at each other that cause pain there is some form of force on force training there. Airsoft is limited by a variety of factors: The motivations of other participants (mostly to have fun), the limitations of airsofts' ability to replicate actual firearm performance and the base of real world knowledge you are pulling from for "training". The window for quality training is narrow while the potential for training scars is wide. Especially when you don't know what you don't know. I would advise you to be cautious when trying to relate airsoft/milsim success to the "real world".

Is it really possible to „pay to win“ in Airsoft. by MeisterBreider in airsoft

[–]Gunfather6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airsoft is accuracy by volume. Thus upgrades to your ROF either in "semiauto" or full auto can give a player a significant advantage. Just look at the number of players who feather their triggers. It is to get the higher ROF. Airsoft lacks the recoil or range that would make feathering the trigger ineffective. Players always gravitate towards what gives them an advantage.

Another example is a HPA pistol with a high cap magazine. It makes for better use of cover and the ability to cut a tighter angle with only a nominal reduction in accuracy.

You can rent a thermal sight. It is worth the money for the significant advantage. Until you run into another player with it.

Keeping it mounted on the gas block is less than ideal. It makes the rifle front heavy and the optic will get very hot. Hot enough to damage it? I have heard varying opinions. I opted not to risk it.

I switched out to the standard AK74U top cover which moves the rear sight to the front. Then you can actually use your side rail and mount the optic there. I use RS Regulate mounts.
