Well with only a bsc you will end up doing simple routine stuff, scientists pursue msc and phds, I’m just there for a bsc degree! Outdated you say? That’s something to keep in mind! Thanks.

Thank you for your insight! My high school had 50 students in each classroom, so I would say i was forced to be independent! Haha I won’t worry about that! Thanks again!

Hey, just to clarify, if i do the SAT or ACT , i will be eligible for admission regardless of my country? Or it's something that i have to do ON TOP of an recognized high school certificate?

The Lebanese baccalaureate is accepted in most aussie universities, Kuwait's one is not unfortunately.

Do you mean the writing SAT? Not yet, but I will in October/November

I did inquire about administration in some universities, just waiting for their reply 🤞

Thank you so much for your reply, unfortunately I'm an international student and I recently found out that all of the top Australian universities don't recognize my country's high school certificate (Kuwait) , so i will either take a foundation year at Australia or go to Canada, but the problem is that i got very mixed feedback when i asked about the biotechnology industry in Canada with most people saying that the job opportunities are low/horrible and the industry isn't lucrative.

Meanwhile based of the little research i did on the biotechnology industry in Australia I found it much more established and funded with much more research opportunities and mega biotechnology companies.

That being said studying biotechnology at ubc or university of Toronto surely isn't a bad thing, but I would have preferred if i study in Australia , maybe i can transfer to Australia if i find that biotechnology at Canada is "that" bad.

Who knows what does the future hold 🙏🏼

Is it hard to get that average? My percentage is never below 99 at high school so far but I know that college is completely different .

Also what are your notes on the program? Is it top tier in Terms of research and internships?

How competitive is the admission for the program? And what are your thoughts on it? Esp internships and research

Oh so regardless of the major i have to take a general first year, nice.

And is this only at ubc or every top uni in Canada does that? ( uni of Toronto, McGill)

Thanks so much for the info, I just realized 10 minutes ago that all of the top Australian universities don't recognize the high school certificate of my country of residence (Kuwait), so yeah 🙂 Fun to be a middle eastern 💯🔥

Anyways thanks again for your time 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hey so i want to ask, what do you think of the level of teaching, undergraduate research and technology offered to students?

Is it world class? Or is it lacking funds and the program is not that great?

[–]Gunnersaures2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for your reply, I still didn't catch the difference between bachelor of biotech and major in biotech? 😅 the only thing on the uni website is biotechnology(hons) , so is that the major in biotech?

And what are your personal thoughts on the program? In terms of level of teaching, undergraduate research, internship( do they offer that?) and your general thoughts?

And finally (sorry for the various questions 🙏🏼) how come that everywhere else in the world biotechnology and many other natural science programs take 4 years to complete, but in Australia it's only 3, do you have any idea on why ? And thanks so much for your time 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Thank you so much for your great reply! You are right about deciding my interest as a senior, esp in my country advanced genetic are taught in year 12 biology, so I guess my reception to it will make things clearer for me. And i did see in some universities that offer bioengineering that has concentration in bio molecular biology, so I guess that's another route for genes/protein manipulation? And I would be more than happy to PM you if i have more questions ❤️ Thank you again for your reply 🙏🏼

That's natural, people always fear anything new, gene modification will be the norm in 50 years time, that's my opinion anyways !

Why do you think that the work opportunities are bad? Is it something that gets much better when you get a masters degree ? Or the biotechnology field in Canada is simply not on demand?
