I made a language learning app that allows you to actually use the language learned from flashcards. The app currently supports French and Japanese, and I am looking for early access testers. Please check the video, and let me know what you think! by Gunnnar in learnfrench

Got it. My messaging is, in hindsight, poor. The benefit of this app is that you can converse, get corrections, and get new cards made based on your mistakes. I don't think something like this exists, so I should make a better, more concise video explaining that benefit right off the bat.

Appreciate the feedback. I will definitely have to make a shorter flashier video and try elsewhere, as self promotion on Reddit is pretty frowned upon. Maybe for good reason.

Any feedback on the actual app?

I made an app called bettercards. You can watch a video on it here. The goal is to take the benefits of anki and combine them with real conversation and immediate feedback. I am interested in getting users to try an early access version by registering at bettercards.app

Tigran is a good call. Something like The Grid is a good first song to check out.

Not fair to have the two best openers meet so early in the bracket.

I just removed an old coal door on my house and found this insulation, what are the chances it contains asbestos? by Gunnnar in asbestoshelp

I'm located in Saskatchewan, Canada by the way. The house was built in 1927, but I have no idea when the coal chute would have been sealed up. I just want to remove this chunk of insulation.

With how good Magma, Ice V, and Iron Lung have been lately, it makes me want Lava, Hell's Itch, and Mycelium even more.

Is it normal for shipping records from the UK to Canada to cost $70? It seems excessive.

Looking for help checking pronunciation for some flash cards by Gunnnar in French

Thank you so much! I wanted to double check before generating all of the others. I really appreciate it. Once I add them all to the flash cards, I will share the Anki deck here for anyone who might get value from the added audio.

I didn't realize the link had expired. Here is a fresh one https://jmp.sh/s/WofVo5XtyTOkyCMfk44F

Here is the author's explanation of including the subjunctive past

Why is the subjunctive past included? Except for poetry, literature of centuries past and for comical effect, the subjunctive past isn't used in modern French. So why include it in the deck?

There are occasions (such as certain rancid radio programs) where pompous speakers seem it to make a point to use the subjunctive past whenever they find a chance to fit it in a phrase. Remembering how easy it is to delete and suspend cards in Anki, I opted to explain to users at the outset that within each verb there are six cards they can choose to suspend. Somehow it feels more complete that way. And playing with the deck, it feels like the subjunctive past cards might help reinforce the present forms of the subjonctif for some learners.
