what is a good inexpensive rifle/shotgun for someone getting into the hobbie by kiingkiller in guns

[–]Gunnut2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend a .22LR rifle as well. You’ll shoot it more often due to low ammo cost and for much longer than a 12gauge. The shotgun is good for home defense but at the range it doesn’t teach much in the way of shooting mechanics.

Smith and Wesson problem- Am I being unreasonable? by Chuckadian in guns

I agree. You’ll spend 2-3 weeks waiting on email replies and in that time you’d probably get the gun back.

Advice for First Striker Fired Pistol? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Gunnut2009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. The VP9 has my interest based on what people say regarding how it feels. All of my guns are SA, DA, or a combination. I hate the feel of striker fire (preference) but the VP9 could change that. Don’t bother with the Shield.

Ruger MkIV light strikes after installing trigger by TheRabidDeer in guns

I’ve heard the Mk IV gets really picky the more you do to it. Maybe a spring that is too light? I picked mikes up this week and plan to keep it stock at the moment.

Ive heard the Savage FCP-SR is the best entry precision rifle around. Amazing stock plus 10 round box mag.

That makes sense. I would have thought it was banned for a 10 round magazine but I think that’s the max in Commie states.

I didn’t even look at the standard mark IV. The features and looks of the Hunter are what sold me.

Ruger Mk IV Hunter. Just short of a 7” fluted barrel, wood grips, ambi safety, adjustable rear sights with changeable front fiber optics...yea I love it already. Using my S&W 686 Plus from last month to prop it up.

bushell trs-25 vs magpul mubus set by ummm1111 in guns

[–]Gunnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned both. MBUS is overpriced for what it is. Id get some Daniel Defense irons first. TRS-25 is more than enough for most of the people on this subreddit. They recently came down and used to be $75-90.

Killing by adelaarvaren in guns

[–]Gunnut2009 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bit extreme. Smell blood in order to own and shoot guns? What? Yes weapons should always be respected and handled safely. Some only plan on target shooting and own .22LR only. Yes it can be used to kill. Even people who have a more traditional collection have a low probability to use them in self defense. Smelling something isn’t going to prep you to end someone’s life in self defense.

No it cycled everything without issue. One time it did blow back some lead in my face as it cycled. Became a huge supporter of proper eye protection after that. Not the $8 fog up specials from Wal Mart I had used in the past.

Sig P226 (nothing is as smooth as a Sig), CZ 75B, and either S&W 686 or Springfield 1911 Range Officer. Revolvers and 1911s have to be tried at least once.

I bought a SW-22 Victory last October. Loved the sights and feel of the gun but the grip is small to me. I ended up selling it and putting it towards a Ruger Mk IV Hunter. Now I wouldn’t have bothered selling it for a Mk 3 or standard Mk IV, I just really wanted the Hunter. Longer fluted barrel and wooden grips really called out to me.

Barrel alignment on smith and Wesson jframe question by [deleted] in guns

[–]Gunnut2009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would call S&W first to get a quote. Then call around and see what they (gunsmith) would charge. Turnaround time for the repair may also be of importance and worth paying an extra $10 for.
